 | | WannaBe: Most expensive 49ers home tix: Dallas ($203), New England ($185). Cheapest Tampa Bay ($74), the funny thing is, 49ers have a chance of winning against TB. http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/schedul...
Most expensive Oakland home games: Atlanta ($115), Houston ($109). Cheapest home tix: Indianapolis ($69) http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/schedul...
Guess no one want to go see Andrew Luck, seen enough of him at Stanford. |

The gamesmanship has already begun between the Cubs and Cardinals as classical music was played throughout the stadium at the beginning of Cubs batting practice at Busch stadium on Monday. Assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske quickly ran into the Cubs clubhouse bringing a wireless speaker back with him setting it up behind the batting cage. The Cubs proceeded to provide their own music during the rest of BP.> I hope Cardinals were playing Clair de Lune, that'll put everyone to sleep. |

 | | WannaBe: Congratulations to them Cubs, first team to double-digit wins, now, who will be the first team to triple digit wins? Or will there be one with 100+ wins?? |
|
Apr-18-16
 | | Penguincw: On the other side of the spectrum, who will be the first to double digit losses? Minnesota, Atlanta and San Diego all have 9. Blue Jays and Raptors both win today, so that's good. But my favourite hockey team, Flyers, ugh. Aside from losing 6-1 to fall to 0-3 in the series, the Flyers got a delay of game penalty thanks to their <fans> throwing bracelets onto the ice that were supposed to be in honour of the franchise's owner, Ed Snider (who died a week ago). |

If you get time, have a look at the score and see if you agree with the one I've submitted, because the ending is a little strange: 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. f4 Bd7 6. Nf3 Rc8 7. Apr-19-16 | | Party Animal: Yo Mr Benoni, who do you think The Lions are aiming to pull the trigger on with their #1 pick in Da Draft in Chi-Town? I Think The Bears are going DE but I could be wrong. |

 | | WannaBe: Well, Twinkies lost at home to Milwaukee, that's their 10th loss. Later today, San Diego and Atlanta (both with 9-losses) will play at home. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Miss Scarlett> Thanks for finding the game. I see what you mean about the finish. The transcription looks correct, but the last three moves are hardly believable. A time scramble is possible, but this looks like more of a score issue. However, there doesn't seem to be a good improvement here. For instance, 33...Kb8 could be moved up to move 31, That would work out a bit better, but will hardly solve all the problems and is a very big assumption to make for a small gain. So I suppose we have to settle with the score as is, bad as it may be.. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Party Animal> Lions draft possibilities are all over the map, but I would suspect DB near the top: they've been shaky there for years, and have some retirements to fill. Don't be surprised if they grab at QB at some point. Stafford is nearing a decade in the league, and it seems obvious now he's never going to take the next step to elite status. |
|
Apr-20-16 | | Party Animal: A number 1 pick on a talented DB especially a corner is a good selection especially if it's a team need. Good Luck on your Draft! |
|
Apr-20-16 | | Jim Bartle: I go more for "best available player" overall. Obviously if have Dan Marino and Eric Dickerson I won't take a QB or RB in the first round, but if you look for a player at a particular position you may be forced to take a not-so-strong player. If you need a safety and there's a great receiver available, take the receiver. Then if necessary you can make a trade later. I also like the Bill Walsh "volume" theory, getting as many picks as possible even if means fewer first-round picks. It's such a crapshoot anyway, so it's best to get various shots at good players rather one really good shot. |

April 20th, 100 years ago Cubs played their first game at Wrigley, beating Cincinnati Reds in 11-innings: http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/p... April 21st: 30 bars opened up for business around Wrigley. |
|
Apr-20-16 | | Jim Bartle: What? There were no lights at Wrigley until 1988? |

 | | WannaBe: <JB> It was a Chicago Public Utility project, it actually started in 1965... |
|
Apr-21-16 | | Party Animal: <Jim Bartle: What? There were no lights at Wrigley until 1988?> They had the materials to construct lights but when the WWII broke out the Cubs donated the steel to the war effort. |
|
Apr-21-16 | | Jim Bartle: Well, then, how did they play games in the dark? |
|
Apr-21-16 | | Party Animal: That's why they played day games. Duh! |

 | | keypusher: < Jim Bartle: Drysdale #19 in peak value, #27 in career value. In one of his books James makes two opposite cases for Drysdale and the Hall of Fame. One seems to show he clearly should be in, the other that there's no way. Each is convincing.
Now if Drysdale had never had to pitch to McCovey...> I believe it was in that same book that he reported on a research project on Drysdale's performances against the Dodgers' key rival in each of their 1960s pennant races. He identified 13 of these games. Amazingly, Drysdale didn't win any of these games, and never even pitched particularly well. Being Bill James, he was agnostic about the result, and said he'd still start Drysdale in a pennant race if it was up to him. But, it did make him wonder a little bit. I think the book came out in the 1980s, and of course it was a massive research project, finding all the old box scores and newspaper accounts. Today it would take someone with access to retrosheet and the internet a couple of hours, I'd guess. |
|
Apr-21-16 | | Jim Bartle: That's right. He didn't win a single game in a series of pennant races. He was always tough, though, and really suffered in comparison pitching on the same team. Koufax's record in those same years in close games was just unreal. In 1963 he went 8-2 when the Dodgers scored four runs, 9-0 when the they scored three, 6-3 when they scored two, and 3-1 when they scored one run. He did fail to win a single game when the Dodgers were shut out. Big strike zone, high mound, pitchers park, doesn't matter--that's an incredible record. |
