 | | WannaBe: Another minor oddity I noticed during the game, MIN@LAD game started 5 minutes before PIT@SFG. By the fourth inning even with all the runs in the SFG game (10-0), LAD was also in the fourth inning (4-1). By the bottom of the seventh in the SFG game, it was top seventh in the LAD game. PIT 3, SFG 11 Game time 3:10
MIN 2, LAD 6 Game time 3:35
SFG pitcher Stratton came in the 6th with score 10-1 gave up 2R 2ER finished up the game, and got a save. Starter MadBum went 5, and Stratton went 4 innings. |

 | | WannaBe: The last time team scored on a triple play was 2006, Seattle against Minnesota. Now I got to find that box score... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport... |

 | | saffuna: All that remains is a triple play where the "fourth out" needs to be recorded. The runner on second hesitating, and then running toward third, certainly indicates he does not think he would have been safe standing on second. He went back toward second thinking the hit might have been caught, then ran toward third. |

 | | WannaBe: Found it, http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/... 8th inning, bases loaded, 4-3-5 Triple Play Castillo to Morneau to Batista. Again, it was the second base runner that started slow, afraid of the ball being caught line-drive. Much like CIN/NYY game. And LOL, Jamie Moyer was the starting pitcher for SEA that day, the ageless wonder was only 20 years into his career (First game was 6/16/1986 for Jamie). Moyer's last game was 5/27/2012. |
|
Jul-26-17
 | | saffuna: As mentioned before, Moyer holds the record for most major league parks played in. |

 | | WannaBe: Dolphins 22, Houston Texans 10. Good football game. I still say HOU should have gone for the on-side kick and then gone for 2. |

Jul-27-17
 | | WannaBe: "That is Incredible", if you remember the 80s TV show. MIA scored 22 on 22 hits and TEX scored 10 on 10 hits, no error by either team. And the game "only" was 4:02 minutes long, 30 minutes longer than that MIN/LAD (6-2) game last night!!! http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore?ga... 32 runs and only 30 minutes longer! You gotta be sheeting me... |

 | | Penguincw: WSH putting a hurt on MIL, as they lead 15-1, hitting 4 consecutive innings. WSH has the offense, and if they're trying to get bullpen help. I think WSH finally makes it to the NLCS this year, but LAD > WSH in the NLCS (calling it now). ---
I'm sure it's pretty obvious, but in a game where it's a blowout, it can be quicker than a close game, since the result is already decided, but sides more likely to throw strikes and less likely to work the count. Almost like basketball; if it's a blowout, you're not going to a commercial break every 2 minutes due to constant fouling. It still can be surprising, nonetheless. |

 | | Penguincw: It's been around 9 months since the Cubs won the World Series, and I was starting to wonder how couples celebrated the win. Well, the results are in: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml... |

 | | Penguincw: Jays, down 10-4 heading into the 9th, score 7 runs to walk it off 11-10! Of course, earlier this year, the Angels were also down 6 runs heading into the 9th, and won it. And on the day with HOF inductions, Beltre, a HOF candidate, records his 3000th career hit. I believe there is a win streak of 5 straight games, where the game a player records his 3000th career hit, his team wins. Right now, TEX trails 9-2. Looking at next in line, I think I made a post about this: Phony Benoni chessforum. I can see Pujols and Cabrera making it, Beltran probably not. Cano is a coin flip. And guys like Trout (close to 1K) and Altuve could make it in the 2020s (or maybe 2030s). |

Pujols, Cabrera and Beltre automatics. 3000 hits is a guarantee. Cano, hard to say, on a weak team now. Trout on his way, Altuve too early to tell. Posey and Yadier Molina are good candidates. |
|
Jul-30-17
 | | Phony Benoni: I'm beginning to question Cabrera's chances. He has been slowing down that last couple of years, and 2017 is just a disaster; he can't get above .260. Part of it is nagging injuries, but mostly it just seems to be the wear and tear of early aging. He needs to become a full-time DH. I don't think he'll make it expending extra energy (and risking injury) by playing the field. |
|
Jul-30-17
 | | saffuna: Sorry, <pb>. Cabrera is a Hall of Famer if he retires today. Lifetime .320 hitter, .400 OBP with 450 home runs. Triple Crown. A no-doubter. |
|
Jul-30-17
 | | Penguincw: Agree, Cabrera is going to the HOF. I'm sure 11 straight 100 RBIs season will be helpful to his resumé too. As for 3000 hits, he's less than 400 away, and his contract isn't up 'til 2023. He'll be 40 by then. Probably will retire there (barring unforeseen circumstances). 75 hits/season for 5 years or 125 hits for 3 years will do the trick. Although I can see Miggy becoming a full time DH, and yeah, it's tough getting old. Players decline when they do so, unless you're David Ortiz. |

|
Jul-31-17
 | | Phony Benoni: I need to follow the conversation more closely. I thought we were talking about reaching 3000 hits in the light o Adrian Beltre getting there. Of course Cabrera is a HOFer. But I do think he's on the downward slope. |

 | | WannaBe: Bottom 9th, first batter Dee Gordon, solid single. No no-no for WAS. |

 | | WannaBe: FGSaw this last night on ESPN (SFG@LAD) and it got me interested... SFG have hit the least HRs in the majors, 82, the team with the most? Houston, 169. Okay, that's not really good comparison, but what about teams within striking distances of SFG or HOU? http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/... 2. TEX 158
3. WAS 158
4. MIL 156
5. NYY 153
6. NYM 152
...
25. MIN 112
26. ATL 108
27. PHI 107
28. PIT 102
29. PIT 102
30. SFG 82
That <IS> incredible. AL have DH! Designated Hitter! Okay, let's look at the basic batting average:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/... 1. HOU .291
2. WAS .277
3. COL .274
4. MIA .268
5. CLE .264
6. NYY .262
7. ATL .261 (!!)
8. DET .260
9. BOS .260
10. LAD .260
...
20. MIN .251
21. MIL .251
22. PHI .248
23. PIT .247
24. CUBS .244
25. SFG .244
26. LAA .243
27. TOR .241
28. TEX .239
29. OAK .237
30. SD .236
Bottom 10, 5 are in the AL, Top 10, 5 are in the NL. What is the purpose of DH?? |
|
Jul-31-17
 | | WannaBe: Alright, look at runs:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/... 1. HOU 609
2. WAS 574
3. COL 564
4. NYY 550
5. LAD 535
6. ARZ 528
7. TEX 512
8. MIL 507
9. CLE 504
10. DET 503
...
21. STL 469
22. KC 454
23. OAK 447
24. PIT 446
25. LAA 442
26. ChiWS 442
27. TOR 438
28. PHI 414
29. SF 414
30. SD 400
Again, 5 NL and 5 AL in both top 10 and bottom 10, but with DH, does not one think that AL would generate more runs? You know, chicks dig the long ball?? |
|
Jul-31-17
 | | OhioChessFan: <25. MIN 112
26. ATL 108
27. PHI 107
28. PIT 102
29. PIT 102
30. SFG 82
That <IS> incredible. AL have DH! Designated Hitter!> It's really incredible Pittsburgh has both an AL and NL team with the same number of home runs. |

 | | WannaBe: Alright Elvis, one of them is BOS, you can check the link to see which one it is. =))) |
