Annie K.: No worries. As long as I don't have to set them up, payoffs are easy. ;)

FSR: I'm saddened to report that Jennifer Yu vs Maggie Feng, 2018 opened with the weird first move 1.b4.

WannaBe: Just lost my bet on "No". Next step is to disown her. =))
Apr-25-18  Count Wedgemore: <FSR: I'm saddened to report that Jennifer Yu vs Maggie Feng, 2018 opened with the weird first move 1.b4.>

Interestingly, she has never opened with it b4.

FSR: <Count Wedgemore> She must have decided to open with it b4 it was too late.

FSR: <Chessgames Bookie> If Nakamura holds the draw against Izoria, you should offer a bet on whether he will do a "full Giri" and draw all of his games. (Or a "full Bisguier"; Bisguier drew all of his games in the 1975 championship - http://graeme.50webs.com/chesschamp..., the only player ever to do so.)

Chessgames Bookie: A noble idea <FSR>. But alas, Nakamura loses on time! That should have been the bet. Who would have thought that Nakamura would ever flag in a game?!
Apr-25-18  truepacifism: "R yu" telling me that,
Jennifer R Yu thought that moving her pawn sitting on B2 was meant 2B?

On the other hand maybe she wanted to "feng" her opponent with a weird move.

Apr-26-18  morfishine: Fate: I was hurried at work placing a small 10-CB bet on Izoria to win over Nakamura and typed 100 CB by accident, winning a cool 971 CB's lol
Apr-26-18  sydbarrett: My own fate depends on Robson converting this tricky endgame. The difference in outcomes is 100 CB if draw or something like 1400 if win. So much on the line ---
Apr-26-18  truepacifism: Checkmate in 144 moves.
Apr-26-18  sydbarrett: Thank Zeus. I would have been dead and buried for good this leg if Robson did not win. I wanna buy him a few whiskeys, or whatever his drink of choice is.

Chessgames Bookie: I may be a little late tomorrow in paying off bets for the Gashimov tournament. I have a business appointment but should be back a few hours before the U.S. Open round 9 begins.

FSR: Nakamura is playing listlessly this tournament. Unlike Yu, he only had enough strength to push his b-pawn one square.

WannaBe: Just got to the window in time for Akobian-So bet. Go Wes!!
Apr-27-18  Count Wedgemore: My goodness. While I've been in free fall over the last few days, taking some major hits, <sydbarrett> has been skyrocketing up in the standings. From rock bottom to 17th, closing in on the leaderboard. Well done, but look out, <syd>..I'm coming back up!
Apr-28-18  sydbarrett: I took a CB hit in the afternoon (US Championship) games, but it's true I had a good morning. I had to renew my passport in Red Hook Brooklyn today and I bought two amazing sandwiches from DelFonte's which I ate while I spent a few minutes looking at the favorable Gashimov results on my phone on the bus away from Red Hook
Apr-28-18  sydbarrett: No I didn't eat both sandwiches they're for the weekend. I'm not overweight. Thanks for the shout-out but don't use reverse psychology. I will not slow down due to flattery
Apr-28-18  zborris8: <sydbarrett> Nicky would be upset that you misspelled his name, haha!
Apr-28-18  sydbarrett: Good catch. I was probably thinking of those delicious Del Monte canned fruit that my dad loved to buy when I was a kid. Also, when I was walking along the factories of Red Hook, I saw a Bon-Ton bag of snacks on the floor. I haven't thought about Bon-Ton since I was a baby in the 80s.

Enough yapping, let's play

Chessgames Bookie: I accidentally paid off the 'Weird Moves' bet too soon forgetting there is still round 11 to go. If by chance another weird move besides 1.b3 & 1.b4 gets played tomorrow I will have the bet corrected.
Apr-28-18  zborris8: Are women's tournies being excluded?

Chessgames Bookie: <zborris8: Are women's tournies being excluded?>

No <zborris8>. Below is a description of the bet. *Both* men's & women's games in the U.S. Championship are included.

<Will any of these unorthodox first moves be seen in any of the US Championship games (mens and women combined)? If more than one of these moves appears, all winning lines will share payoff. If none of them are played in any game, "NONE" will win.>
