Aug-01-05  California812: must be more than one person here.....
Apr-26-06  soberknight: Nielsen was overrated. :)
Apr-26-06  Jim Bartle: Certainly, watch how the elite sweeps him away...
Oct-01-06  positionalbrilliancy: <chessgames>Is this an error?

  alexmagnus: now it's 1855 to 2004. 149 years - is this a record?
Oct-02-06  jamesmaskell: What about Karjakin, that might beat it. Im pretty sure little Karjakin wasnt playing in the 19th Century!

alexmagnus: You mean this one?Karjakin. Interesting... Played in 1935 and was rated 2660 lol. Somewhere there must be a mistake.
Oct-02-06  gus inn: the immortal Nielsen
Jan-15-09  Marmot PFL: Nielsen Shmielssen. He had a flat in London where both Cass Eliot and Keith Moon died (not at the same time).
Jan-26-09  WhiteRook48: now 1855 and 1960- 105 years, how did he live so long?
Mar-07-09  Toadspring: Players tend to fade a little when they get in their 130's.
Mar-07-09  chessman95: Yes, I started having some trouble around my 105th birthday :)

Tabanus: This 'secret' list of 77 Nielsen's does not show when searching for "Nielsen". I've started sending correction slips - let's see how short the list can be made.

Tabanus: Progress report - now 25.

A few more can probably be identified but the pre-1977 ones are difficult.

perfidious: <Tabanus> After doing some digging, all the games listed from 1981 Politiken Cup appear to have been played by Jorgen G Nielsen, and I've submitted slips for each.
Jul-18-12  Calli: Sent in a correction for the Van Der Linde game (see game kibitzing). The other two early ones are also likely one of the Nielsen brothers, (Govert or Vilhelm). The Delcomyn game is a duplicate of Copenhagen vs London Chess Club, 1908 but there is a score discrepancy. Delcomyn and Nielsen were probably members of the club teams. All three need the original publication in order to correct them.

perfidious: Progress is being made-the crack team of CG detectives are ferreting out yet more-but the Kasparov and Yusupov games have, oddly enough, proven tough nuts to crack.
Jul-19-12  Calli: Sent correction for the Lasker game.

White is Verner Nielsen. Source: The Collected Games of Emanuel Lasker by Ken Whyld, game 1101, page 170. Whyld cites the Danish magazine, Dansk Skakbladet 1920, as his source.

Tabanus: Van Wely - Nielsen 1989, Black is Uffe Vinter-Schou who was formerly known as Uffe Vinther Nielsen! The game is in Danbase: http://dsu9604.dsu.dk/partier/danb8.... Slip submitted. 16 Nielsen's left at this moment.
Jul-28-12  Calli: For the Purdy game, White is "C. Nielsen"

Source: "How Purdy Won" by C.S.J. Purdy, Frank Hutchings and Kevin Harrison, page 95 which lists "C. Nielsen (Denmark)"

Submitted.

Tabanus: <Calli> Despite the "C." it may be Julius Nielsen who was indeed a strong Danish CC player.

perfidious: <Tabanus> After reading the kibitzes to Kasparov vs Nielsen, 1977, I resubmitted a slip.
Jul-31-12  Calli: Tabanus < Julius Nielsen indeed a strong Danish CC player >

"C. Nielsen" was not. Lost all games in the event except one draw according the crosstable in the book. And, of course. blundered in 11 moves against Purdy.

Jul-31-12  TheFocus: Ozzie and Harriet Nielsen are strong husband and wife Danish players.
