Tabanus: <Calli> Ok. I have no idea then who it might be.

<perfidious> Fine :) but still 16 left...

Tabanus: ... 15 left. The Yusupov game is vs Niels Jorgen Fries Nielsen. The game is in Norbase:

http://norbase.sjakk.biz/engameview...

Aug-03-12  Calli: Should be 12 left because Kasparov, Van Wely and Yusupov are submitted. Hey, the librarian corrected the Purdy but not the others. I must have stroke! :-O

Have some info on the first five games, but not enough for a correction. Might be a good idea to enter what I have here so that it may help someone else figure it out.

Tabanus: Nielsen vs Larsen, White is Verner Nielsen who is listed as "E. Verner Nielsen" in Danbase see http://dsu9604.dsu.dk/partier/stump... click on 1953 DM Horsens. Many other sources has "E. Verner Nielsen", I don't know what first name the "E." stands for.
Aug-04-12  Calli: Here are some clues for the first five games:

1. Nielsen vs H Christiansen
This game was "probably Norway, early 1970s" according to this forum: http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yab... (search the page for "Nielsen") The poster sources BDG Keybook II, 1999. Anybody have it?

2. E Schallopp vs Nielsen
Found a different game, Schallop vs Vilhelm Neilsen, in the CP Chronicle (1878). I suspect this game is also Vilhelm. Still looking for it.

3. Nielsen vs C F Delcomyn
As posted earlier, this is a duplicate of Copenhagen vs London Chess Club, 1908 with Nielsen probably a player on the Copenhagen team. Have not found a publication of the score.

4. Nielsen vs S A Tufte
The game is referenced in "The Chess Players' Compendium: a Practical Guide to the Openings" by William Cook (1907) http://books.google.com/books?id=Zj... Cook sources the game from "The Times". Anyone with access to the London Times archive?

5. Nielsen vs Ottosen
The Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhSR... claims the game was played by B Nielsen in Herning, Denmark. I suspect it is Bjorn Nielsen and perhaps he published it in one of his books. Anyone have the books of Bjorn Nielsen?

Aug-04-12  Calli: 3. Nielsen vs C F Delcomyn - This is not a team game as I had thought. White is Vilhelm Nielsen

Source: LAROBOK I SCHACK, 1903, page 179, game 98 http://books.google.com/books?id=10...

Submitted and will also request deletion of the team game.

  Tabanus: ... now 14 left.

Should be 10, as the Delcomyn, Nielsen vs Larsen, Yusupov and Van Wely games are submitted for correction.

Aug-06-12  Calli: 2. E Schallopp vs Nielsen

Black is Vilhelm Nielsen Game started in May, 1876. Source: Nordisk Skaktidende, Vol 5, 1877, page 129, Game Number 407: http://books.google.com/books?id=pB...

  Tabanus: ... 9 left.

Amazing work by <Calli>, but who is rated enough to crack the remaining?

Aug-09-12  Calli: Game 2 was a Tufte one. :-o

White is Vilhelm Nielsen --Again!

Source: Lärobok i Schack (1921) , game 52, page 232

Link probably won't work outside the USA.

Aug-11-12  Calli: The final eight! Probably not all can be "solved". Lets recap:

1) Nielsen vs H Christiansen is a 1970s game. The book "Blackmar-Diemer Gambit Keybook II" (1999) might contain more info.

2) Nielsen vs Ottosen Several internet sources give "B Nielsen", If no print publication can be found, we can go with "B" as the best info available.

3) Larsen vs Nielsen - No clue. Wasn't there an effort to collect all Larsen games in a pgn a few years ago?

Games 4-8 - Correspondence games. Will try to get hold of one of those huge Corr DBs to see if these are known players.

Sastre: Nielsen vs T Oim, 1973 - is Julius Nielsen according to the ChessBase database.

Negoescu vs Nielsen, 1973 - is also Julius Nielsen according to the ChessBase database.

Sastre: Larsen vs Nielsen, 1953 - is Axel Nielsen and was played at the 1953 Nordic Championship in Esbjerg according to the ChessBase database.

Sastre: J Aijala vs Nielsen, 1980 - is Niels Jorgen Nielsen (not to be confused with Niels Jorgen Fries Nielsen) according to a correspondence database. The game was played in 1970, not 1980.
Aug-11-12  Calli: <Sastre> Many thanks for your efforts. Don't know if you have submitted corrections, but I would like to check Tim Harding's DB first. Chessbase is not the most reliable to me.

Sastre: <Calli> I've submitted corrections for the four games above. The only one I'm not too sure about is Larsen vs Nielsen, 1953 because I can't find any other games from that tournament.

Sastre: Regarding Larsen vs Nielsen, 1953, I've found a crosstable (http://books.google.com.au/books?id...) which confirms that Bent Larsen and Axel Nielsen participated in the 1953 Nordic Championship.
Aug-11-12  Calli: <Sastre> Looks like a good correction for Larsen vs Nielsen, 1953 to me. Also request a change for the Event and Site for that one (obviously!).

I found that Negoescu vs Nielsen, 1973 is actually Mogens Nielsen. See page 11 in this PDF and the game is annotated by Mogens himself: http://www.skakklubbencentrum.dk/pd...

Sastre: <Calli> Thanks for the correction about Mogens Nielsen.
Aug-12-12  Calli: Finally managed to get a look at Tim Harding's correspondence database. It confirms what we have for the games 4 through 8. The Event/Site tags are slightly different, so I include them here for future reference:

[Event "EU/MSM/I/1-08"] / [Site "corr ICCF"]
Julius Nielsen (DEN) vs Tonu O Oim (EST)

[Event "EU/MSM/I/1-08"] / [Site "corr ICCF"]
Gheorghe Negoescu (ROM) vs. Mogens Nielsen (DEN)

[Event "EU/M/251"] / [Site "corr ICCF"]
[Date "1970.??.??"]
Jorma Aijala (FIN) vs. Niels Jorgen Nielsen (DEN)

Unfortunately, we still lack full names for games 7-8.

[Event "Baltic Sea tt4"] / [Site "corr"]
Nielsen (DEN) vs Karl Burger

[Event "Sweden 2nd-class"] / [Site "corr"]
Pettersson vs Nielsen (DEN)

Summation: Four remain. The first two may be found. The last two will require luck.

Tabanus: <Summation: Four remain> Go, go, go! :)

<2) Nielsen vs Ottosen Several internet sources give "B Nielsen"> That "B" makes me 99,9% sure it's Bjorn Nielsen.

Aug-13-12  Calli: < 99,9% sure it's Bjorn Nielsen.>

99,9% is not good enough. :-)
