Phony Benoni: News item from Michigan Chess, Feb. 1983, p. 10:

<"Leo Williams of Montreal set a new Canadian record for blindfold chess by playng 25 opponents July 15 [1982], winning 21, drawing 3 and losing 1.

"But even more unusual were the playing conditions. The event shared space with a football team celebration. They brought a band, cheerleaders and a P.A. system. Somehow Williams managed to make it through the ordeal without losing track of a single piece, reports Chess Canada Echecs, the publication of the Chess Federation of Canada.">

Apr-17-14  Lossmaster: I once was a victim of a Leo Willams blindfold simultaneous exhibition. I was one of his 10 opponents, a 14 year-old patzer. After only 10 moves, I was the first opponent to resign, at the suggestion of my chess instructor. Talk about support! (Actually, he wanted someone to resign early so that a local TV newsreporter could interview one of the losers before the 6 o'clock newscast... I was that loser.) I still have the score sheet. It was in 1979 in Longueuil, Quebec.

perfidious: Got to play Leo once, in an event at Burlington, Vermont in fall 1975. Played a QGA and got smoked in twenty-odd moves; typical first round pairing of 2300 player vs 1600.
