Oct-24-06 | | llauro: Yes, since the Rybka has become MultiProcessor and can run in 4 or 8 highspeed (Intel) cores, it seems it's enough to crush the 32 or 64 1-or-2-year old CPUs with a (it seems) simple brute forze program. I think Zor_Champ should have used Rybka 2.1o if wanted to win the FreeStyle :) It's a pitty we will never see a Kramnik-Rybka or Topalov-Rybka or anyhuman-Rybka match. After this result, Hydra should became opensource to try to catch the Rybka! |
Oct-25-06 | | ahmadov: But why there is not game of Hydra vs Rybka in this database? I cannot believe that Rybka is stronger than Hydra. |
Oct-25-06 | | THE pawn: I believe during centaur games the man makes the difference, not the computer. So rybka is probably backed up by better players, but during a real game, Hydra would beat Rybka, or it would at least be a much more equal match, these centaur games do not mean anything. |
Oct-31-06 | | spirit: <It's a pitty we will never see a Kramnik-Rybka or Topalov-Rybka or anyhuman-Rybka match.> <llauru> why? |
Nov-09-06 | | MarvinTsai: So no human being has beat down this thing yet? Terrible... I really want to see Kramnik(Topalov) makes a sacrifice before the win about 30 moves ahead, and Rybka(Hydra) doesn't have a clue what's going on until position suddenly being so bad. But this is just what I think. |
Nov-09-06 | | jamesmaskell: Our own Arno Nickel beat down this thing...twice. Look on the game list. White and Black. It was in correspondence play though. |
Nov-09-06 | | jhoro: Good news is that Rybka (Computer) is beating it on a regular bases these days. in the last Freestyle Championship Zor_champ (Hydra) finished dead last with 3/9 http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |
Nov-09-06 | | jhoro: I read what was said above and I'd agree there are times when centaur mode is better, but there are many cases when it is just the opposite. According to GMAN's article (the link above) Icy45 was 2/6 in centaur mode and 1.5/3 in pure comp mode. To Hydra's defence, GMAN thinks that it did not play to its potential. It started 2/3, but then it went down big time. People speculated that they were using something else. We don't know but Hydra has for sure had hard time at the Freestyle tournaments since Rybka started playing this year. |

Jan-25-07 | | schlechtj: First of all, there is no point in Hydra becoming open source because it's advantage is in it's hardware, special chess field programmable chips that calculate nothing but chess positions. Hydra it's self is pretty dumb as far as modern chess programs go, just a lot faster. Its great to see rybka giving this thing a thrashing. The arabs are pouring millions into this huge chess computer trying to get recognition by whipping out their oil money. But, its a case of brains over brawn. Rybka is not that fast but it is using real chess knowlodge. Even though humans probably can no longer keep up with computers of the highest level it is still a matter of man vs. machine. Rybka is showing us that a mans chess knowlodge when applied properly to a chess program can still whip something that is purley built for speed (by a factor of probably a thousand!). Vas is the first IM to program a chess program an look at the results. Hopefully we will soon have a GM who can program apply his knowlodge to a chess program. Now THAT would be something. |
Feb-08-07 | | afioonov: It is beautifull too see how hydra is being crushed.Arabs+British worms thought, they have the final solution for chess, but freestyle championships proved them wrong.Chess still needs the creativity of humans to be alive.I would like to thank Arno nickel for his beautifull wins over hydra in 2004 and the Czech Xakru for crushing this stupid machine.I can see arabs crying over their final solution. |
Feb-08-07 | | LoFarkas: The Hydra team should hire Vasik Rajlich to write a better program for them... and do it double quick before they get really badly embarrassed. |
Feb-08-07 | | truefriends: Nickel defeated an earlier version called Scylla... The final and full version of Hydra has NEVER been beaten! please show me the game against Xakru as i cant find it here on chessgames.com |
Feb-08-07 | | truefriends: <Assassinater>: according to the Xakru game my Fritz finds it very hard to understand the white play. BUT after a long think it only finds a DRAW in the final position! |
Feb-28-07 | | TheHurricane3: If Hydra was ever a person he would be non other than Shaquille O'Neal. |
Feb-28-07
 | | WannaBe: Yes, I bet Hydra can't make a free-throw either. :-)) |
Feb-26-08 | | The Rocket: why is not hydra on this list?:http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccr... does it go by another name?, and why was not hydra in in the 2007 world computer championships(or was it?) |
Jun-25-08 | | Balthasar: Is Hyrra active in the computer chess scene?
The last game it played in this database is in 2005... |
Nov-24-08
 | | Open Defence: I wonder if Rybka scales to that hardware |
Apr-23-09 | | myschkin: . . .
http://www.google.de/interstitial?u... ... conficker.hy32 ? maybe a false positive |
Apr-23-09 | | MaxxLange: maybe wherever their site is hosted is pwned, too |
Apr-10-10 | | DiscoJew: Hydra is dead. |
Aug-01-12 | | Chess Magician: Why was Hydra not used after 2005 ? |
Aug-16-12 | | Xeroxx: I Want to be a Machine. |
Dec-25-12 | | Xenon Oxide: It seems like the project is dead. |
Dec-06-13 | | Zappa XP: Humans, you've pretty much been obsoleted! |
