May-24-12 | | Llawdogg: Happy Birthday IM Hansen! |
Aug-03-12
 | | HeMateMe: Hansen is 20 years old. Should this be labelled "boys and girls"? |
Sep-07-12 | | shalgo: He's having a great Olympiad--a 2624 performance rating after 10 rounds. |
Sep-08-12 | | Xeroxx: Is he a GM now? |
Sep-08-12
 | | Stonehenge: Just click on 'FIDE player card'. |
Sep-09-12 | | waustad: On the olympiad site it says he got the GM title as of round 10. It isn't yet official. http://results.chessolympiadistanbu... click on IM/GM titles. This site is probably ephemeral, so enjoy it while it lasts. |

Oct-14-12 | | HAPERSAUD: congrats brother, gm hansen |

Dec-06-12
 | | hansj: GM Eric has just won (totally dominating!) an event in Mexico! Congratulations! and his rating is approaching 2600. It looks like he will be soon number one in Canada. |

Dec-12-12 | | Ezzy: <2012 Panama Open: IM Eric Hansen scores 2900 performance! 11.12.2012 – Set in the lovely tropics, the Panama Open has just finished. It attracted many players from abroad, seeking relief from the cold and at times freezing winter temperatures in their home countries. The 2012 edition also witnessed a record performance for an IM, as the Canadian IM Eric Hansen scored an imperial 8.5/9 and a 2900 performance!> http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |
Dec-12-12 | | Ezzy: And gained 31 elo points. |
Mar-02-13 | | Layson: Eric Hansen finishes joint first at Cappelle-la-Grande with a 2679 performance. Eric Hansen's progression since being destroyed by Gashimov at the World Cup in 2011 has been most interesting, showing a steady progression after having seemingly reached a plateau from 17-19 years old. It gives us Canadians hope that in the near future, the player coming out of zone 2.2 won't serve simply as an appetizer for the top seeds. It would also help if Kovalyov finally transferred to the Canadian federation as well. |

May-27-13 | | twinlark: Hansen's already qualified for the World Cup in 2013, but there doesn't seem to have been a Canadian Zonal 2.2 tournament played this year, and I can't find evidence of any being planned. Does anyone know what's happening, as just about all the other places at this year's World Cup have been filled? After Zonal 2.3 is played in Costa Rica this week and next, the only vacancies in the World Cup will be one person from Zone 2.2 and the FIDE and Organiser nominees. |
Jul-11-13 | | gauer: Hello <twinlark>! It appears that Bator Sambuev qualified from zone 2.2 and meets Alexander Morozevich of Russia (the http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.h... provides a more official explanation). http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ches...
Eric, alternatively, was able to advance (from a tie with Bator in the Canadian championship in August 2011 which resulted in a quicker play-off of a couple of games) to the 2012 Americas Continental to secure a http://www.chessworldcup2013.com/ seed in first round vs Vladimir Malakhov - also from Russia. It's possible that some of the zonal 2.2 rating lists of 2011-13 could determine the highest qualifier if the 2011 zonal was scheduled too early in the cycle to select a participant that may have chosen to not waive their seating selection for the event. Bator got a board 1 seat for the team at the 2012 Olympiad from the tiebreak games, and Eric qualified to the team by rating in that case. |
Jul-11-13 | | twinlark: <gauer> Thanks. There are some interesting match ups. |
Jul-11-13 | | gauer: Simen Agdestein, Jon Ludvig Hammer, Torbjorn Ringdal Hansen and Leif Erlend Johannessen appear to be the organizer's nominees and Judit Polgar is the President's nominee. |
Jul-12-13 | | twinlark: <gauer> <Judit Polgar is the President's nominee.> Yes. Also, the other President's nominees are Hou Yifan, Wei Yi, J. Duda, Vachier-Lagrave and Navara. |
Jul-15-13 | | gauer: <twinlark> thanks for adding those other presidential nominees - wasn't sure that more than 1 were appointed at the time. Also, the 2011 Canadian zonal should've be amended as May, not August. Discussion at World Cup (2013) is up now, where further discussion is more appropriate than at Eric's corner. |
Jul-22-13 | | Orlack: Congratulations to GM Eric Hansen!!! He finished joint first with GM Nigel Short at the 2013 Canadian Open on 7.5/9, ahead of GM Ivan Sokolov and GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista among others! (Short was declared the champion on tiebreak). |
Feb-08-14 | | dumbgai: Hansen had a very good tournament in Gibraltar, scoring 7/10 with no losses for a 2679 TPR. He beat Agdestein and held draws against Tomashevsky, Li Chao, Rapport, Harikrishna, and Edouard. Well done! |
Mar-12-14
 | | hansj: 8/10 at Rejkjavik and great wins against GM Berkes, GM Djurhuus, and GM Naiditsch, the last two as Black!
Congratulations Eric on breaking 2600! |
Mar-18-15
 | | Penguincw: Congrats to Eric Hansen for his performance at the Reykjavik Open (2015)! Hansen entered as the 16th seed at 2566, but finished 8th overall (in the middle of a 11-way tie for 3rd). He scored 7.5/10. He started off with 2 wins, but then followed up with 2 draws. However, he then won 3 games in a row to climb right back in there. He then had to face top seed Mamedyarov, and drew him. Then he had to face 3rd seed Eljanov with black, and held him to a draw (Hansen was better throughout most of the game too!). Then a draw against Naroditsky in the last round secured his strong performance. Like mentioned before, he was rated 2566, but had a TPR of 2665. He also gained a solid 13.8 rating points, as he continues his quest to 2600. Go Canada! |
