Apr-07-24  EvanTheTerrible: Erigaisi won the Menorca Open on tiebreaks ahead of Alekseenko and Chigaev. I'm happy to see his persistence paying off.

That's two Open tournaments with daily double-rounds that he played back to back.

After this result, he is leading the FIDE circuit standings (albeit with the most events played) ahead of Abdusattorov, Niemann, Wei Yi, and Tabatabaei.

The abundance of energy that Arjun had and his consistency of late - mind boggling ....

Apr-09-24  EvanTheTerrible: I was incorrect, he is not leading the FIDE circuit standings. I assumed this tournament would yield enough points, but he is 2nd behind Abdusattorov.
Apr-27-24  Rdb: Sigeman chess tournament started today . Erigaisi won first round game and abdusattarov lost first round game.

Now , in the live rating , Arjun erigaisi is ranked 5th , gukesh ranked 6th , abdusattarao ranked 8th.

Apr-27-24  EvanTheTerrible: The future is so bright. So many talented young players.

MissScarlett: <Chessgames seems far more interested in the games of dead players than contemporary stars.>

To be fair, many dead players are more interesting than contemporary stars.

Jun-03-24  Rdb: Praggnanandhaa ranked 10 in live rating list

And Arjun erigaisi ranked 4 in live rating list

3 young Indians in top ten in live rating list.

Jun-07-24  ultrausurper: Can we get the French Top 16 Club Championship up on chessgames? Lot's of notable participants including Arjun Erigaisi, Hans Niemann, Jorden van Foreest, Pentala Harikrishna, Vasyl Ivanchuk, Amin Tabatabaei, Andrey Esipenko, Nihal Sarin, David Navara etc.

Here's a link to the lichess broadcast.
https://lichess.org/broadcast/frenc...

Arjun has so far scored 7/8 with a performance of 2923 and is up to 2773.3 and world number 4. Hans is chasing the 5th US Olympiad spot, currently rated 2699.3 after scoring 6/8 so far, right behind Ray Robson rated 2700.0 after winning the Summer Chess Classic. However, he's currently losing to Pentala Harikrishna with black.

Jun-09-24  ultrausurper: Niemann has both his games since that loss to Harikrishna and is now up to 2703, three points ahead of Robson. Aravindh is has also cracked 2700 after scoring 8/11 thus far, and is ahead of Harikrishna and currently eligible for the Indian team.

Once again, would love to have the games over here on chessgames.com

Jun-28-24  ColdSong: Erigaisi's progress are frightening. An old an interesting question is who will succed to MC as the number one. There's definitely a new and promising name on the list.
Oct-22-24  notyetagm: Arjun just won again at the ECC -> <2799.6>.

Oct-23-24  Atking: <notyetagm: Arjun just won again at the ECC -> <2799.6>. https://www.2700chess.com/games/mik... > A potential 2800 is obviously a very strong player but at the ECC, Arjun's victory vs the old man Tom Wedberg, was quite suspicious...
Oct-23-24  Mayankk: Given how well Erigaisi has done in last 12 months or so, it is surprising that his page has generated little excitement here, so far. That may well change if he rises to world no 2, which seems very likely given his ratings trajectory.

Unlike Firouzja who flattered to deceive, largely as he seems to enjoy the adrenaline rush of rapid chess more, Erigaisi plays a classical game almost every day, sometimes even 2 in a day. This relentless passion is exceedingly rare in today's world with everyone seeking instant gratification.

I hope this passion for classical is suitably rewarded with a chance at the world championship in the future. Despite all the adrenaline rush from rapid and blitz games, they are available at dime-a-dozen and that cheapens them in a way. Having the world's best players fully dedicated to classical may help bring some of its lost glory.

Check It Out: I guess we can start talking about him then...

He just beat Andreiken's Caro Kann and reached 2802, world third after some other guys.

Hard to understand why Andreikin would play 37...Rxb5, leaving both rooks unavailable to protect his naked king on the back rank

Oct-24-24  Atking: <Hard to understand why Andreikin would play 37...Rxb5, leaving both rooks unavailable to protect his naked king on the back rank> Time pressure?
Oct-25-24  Mayankk: Congrats indeed! Next target should be to put daylight between himself and number 2, so that he has sole claim to it.

Number 1 crown is still far away. And it is likely that Carlsen may start playing some classical should he get too close. He seems to relish having the world's best crown, even if he doesn't want to put in the effort anymore.

Oct-25-24  Rdb: Isn't it a little strange that there is no hype about arjun erigaisi crossing 2800 ELO ?

Oct-27-24  Everett: Looking at Erigasi’s ratings over various time controls, his classical is far better than the other two formats, not so dissimilar to Caruana’s particular strengths, though the latter has made great strides in rapid in blitz in recent years.

perfidious: One would imagine that those splits mean little in practice; I have observed on more than one occasion how a strong player (2400+) has clearly lower ratings in those other formats, likely in part because they are young and improving rapidly, partly also because they focus on classical play. There is, moreover, bound to be far greater fluctuation in rapid and blitz formats.

Open Defence: What is scary is that he has room to improve

One thing I am seeing these days is toddlers getting into chess. They start them really young.

tamar: Erigaisi’s play in the Rapids was good, but not consistent.

Looks like he is going to follow in Spassky’s footsteps in faltering in his early days gaining qualifications to the World Championship, while playing exceptionally creative chess.

Dec-29-24  EvanTheTerrible: He only missed the first FIDE Circut spot. Plenty of other qualification methods left, especially if he continues to play so well.
