Sep-14-05  JustAFish: <who only plays fish for 1 or 2 rating points per game>

Funny, I don't recall playing any "ekes" lately.

Sep-14-05  roni.chessman: <Sneaky>

Hey sneakmeister...what's ur account name in FICS? Mine is <ronichessman>, i have reached a peak of 1940+ in FICS but lost some and crashed to 1877. Anyways, we can play blitz or my favourite standard time limit - 30 + 90

Sneaky: I've been "Sneaky" on FICS since 1995.
Sep-14-05  Koster: <Sneaky:> I never had the attention span for that kind of thing. I think I play my best against slightly stronger players and often get careless against much lower rateds.
Sep-14-05  Koster: <Sneaky: I should add as a warning to hopeful "ekes" out there--one day you'll play somebody rated 1250 who has Fritz 9 fired up. Good luck!!>

The same can happen OTB when you play one of these juniors who is improving so fast that the rating is ridiculously low. Once I was just below 2100 and was lucky to get a draw with a young teenager rated low 1600s. Today he is over 2300.

Oct-27-05  Amber Berglund: This is an official announcement. Alex and I are no-longer a couple. We have separated and he is free to see other people as he likes. I am separating myself from Chess and everyone associated with Chess. I am not an anti-Semite and neither is Alex. I'm half Jewish. I believe in monogamy. Alex is a great person and I wish him the best.

Do you look anything like Sofie Polgar? If so, send recent photo. I don't associate with chess players anymore either. As far as monogamy is concerned, your religion, whatever it is, is your business. We all have our own beliefs, but who really knows?

Nov-07-05  Amber Berglund: Okay, now we are officially back together again. Sometimes, Alex can be a real creep.

tpstar: <Amber Berglund> Congratulations on reconciling and making the best of it. Chess players are often a little "touched" because it's such an individual pursuit, so please try not to think badly of all chess players, even if we are a bit weird. For some of us, it's preserving our sanity. ;>D

Best wishes for the future.

Nov-07-05  DP12: I have 0-5 against this guy it is so annoying.... His style is really, really nice because it is based upon understanding not hard work. Wojtkiewicz would never play the Colle, he loves to play fianchetto against everything and he knows the resulting positions so well. Also he has such a nice feeling for chess, even if he is too lazy to use it properly. I recently had the pleasure of watching him analyse a game, which I assure you he almost never does at least in public, and you could just hear the understanding and clarity of thinking. He would say things like "white has excellent compensation for a pawn" or "the 2 central pawns are worth much more than the 3 wing ones" and it all ended up true even if he was making mistakes in analysis and calculations. Its ashame that such a great talent has ended up the way it has.
Nov-07-05  alexandrovm: <Its ashame that such a great talent has ended up the way it has.> I'm curious...how did he ended up?
Nov-07-05  DP12: This is a guy who was one of Tal's proteges. Now, he is just playing tournaments like a robot almost because he has no choice. Whenever, he plays a really good guy he doesn't really want to beat him---- just to survive him and go down to play some guy like me and crush me. It's almost like he has lost the desire and to some extent the ability to really play chess up to his potential. His rating declines continuously because of this as well.
Nov-08-05  notsodeepthought: <stijn: <Amber Berglund> Nobody cares.> A little harsh, but funny...
Nov-08-05  alexandrovm: <just to survive him and go down to play some guy like me and crush me.> thanks for your replay. And now you play him in real tournaments or in the internet (like chessgames from chessbase for example)

keypusher: <Amber Berglund> Would be happy to be pointed to any games Alex Wojtkiewicz is particularly proud of.
Nov-09-05  Amber Berglund: Alex isn't dead, DP12... you don't "end up" until you are in the ground. It's smart to play safe against strong players, and he's not a robot. We all have choices. Alex could get a "normal" job, as I've stated before, a year ago, he plays tournaments because that is his choice. He fluently writes and speaks five languages. Just because he dresses like he's homeless doesn't mean he is, actually. He's not walking around shoeless, scoping the sidewalks for cigarette butts, yet. He has a closet full of decent clothes that he never wears because they are "too formal" and he isn't big on laundry. His rating has been declining because, now, he has a life. He's 42, what do you want? He's still in the top-10. His focus has shifted to teaching and training Kamil Miton, the E.U. and what is happening politically in Poland. He's distracted. He spends hours and hours on Polish websites, posting and talking to people about Polish politics until 5 a.m. He's obsessed with what's happening there. Sometimes he will stay up for two-days straight on Polish politics, Earl Grey tea and obsessive anger.

and that stijn is a 17 year-old French kid, I don't expect him or anyone else to care. I'm a narcissist and sometimes I need an audience.

Nov-09-05  DP12: Of course I wasn't trying to deny Wojtkiewicz's genius or imply he was homeless or even as jobless as <BadTemper>. I am just saying that as a chessplayer he never reached his zenith. Not even meant negatively because like I said he has consistently crushed me in a most unpleasant way.
Nov-09-05  DP12: I just meant the 1-0 or 1-1 is jobless and no I don't.
Nov-13-05  alexandrovm: <I said he has consistently crushed me in a most unpleasant way.> in tournaments or in the internet?
Nov-14-05  DP12: in US tournaments
Nov-15-05  alexandrovm: <DP12: in US tournaments> thanks for the info. What is your current ELO? (not the american, but the ELO from FIDE)
Dec-20-05  Daodejing: Nice combination:Very well played by Alex
