Mar-03-04  refutor: this is dale kirton, who refuted the gothenberg variation of the sicilian najdorf in an issue of NIC in the 1990s
Mar-16-04  gothenburg: Hi Refutor! The game you chose of mine against Kaptsan, was a protest game. You see the Manitoba Chess executive at that time had revoked my lifetime membership, which had earlier been awarded to me at the annual meeting. The same meeting these guys were elected! Their reason for revoking it was that there was not enough members to make a legal quorum. If that was the case, who elected them? By the way the final position was probably winning for me but the point was simply to play joke openings on behalf of the joke Manitoba executive!

Joshka: <gothenburg> Welcome Dale Nice to have master players come aboard for their contributions. So when you refuted the "Gothenburg", Bobby's game against Gligoric way back in the 60's was faulty and he should have lost?
Nov-07-08  offtherook: <gothenburg> or <refutor>: Has the Goteborg variation actually been refuted? I was under the impression that it was considered a forced draw. Where is White's win?

Benzol: <offtherook> If you haven't seen them already you like to have a look at the posts on this game ( only two pages worth and I think interesting ) Geller vs Panno, 1955
Nov-09-08  offtherook: <Benzol> I've seen that page before, and reading over it again I don't see where the modern-day refutation is. Heck, I have a book on the Najdorf where Geller claims the 11 Nxe6 line is a forced draw, citing Gligoric-Fischer as an example but also giving a specific (improved) line out to the draw by perpetual check. I'll have to do some digging and see if the theory has been updated.
Nov-09-08  offtherook: All right, I have found http://www.auschess.org.au/columns/... Is this the refutation spoken of? I can't make much of it; semi-literate rambling combined with terrible organization make reading that page nowhere near worth the effort. But just to clarify: is this actually a refutation, or is it like when Fischer wrote "A Bust to the King's Gambit?"
