 | | Joshka: Danny ( in a repeat interview on chess.fm) speaks about a Tal-Larsen game Alekhine's Defense, where Tal could have a Nxf7 move. Checked the database here, do not believe it's the one that is listed, am I mistaken? |
|
May-03-05 | | AgentRgent: I believe it may be this one: Tal vs Larsen, 1965 |
|
May-03-05 | | Ziggurat: <AgentRgent> beat me to it! That's the game. <If this had been in a simultaneous display, I would have decided that my opponent had simply overlooked the stroke 6. Nxf7 Kxf7 7. Qh5+, when, against his will, the black king is forced to 'go for a walk'. But Larsen could not have missed this, and I began examining the possible variations, which were, of course, pretty complicated.> - Tal |

 | | Sally Simpson: Sad news about Danny passing away.
I have loads of happy chess memories from the 80's when we became friends and we kept in touch with each other over the years. He was quite a character. Not many dull moments....often quite the reverse. Rest in Peace Danny, Thank you for all your help and encouragement. Geoff |

 | | paulalbert: I just learned of Danny's death. I had attended many of his summer chess camps, and Danny authored along with GM Lubomir Ftacnik the book on all the 64 games that won my Brilliancy Prize at the U.S. Chess Championship. He just sent out an email ten days ago related to this year's camp and I was about to call him. I was unaware that the medical condition he had seemingly been successfully conquering had taken an irreversible turn for the worse. He was true lover of chess.
My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. |

 | | perfidious: RIP Danny.
Our first meeting, at the 1982 New England Open, is a game I will always remember: you sacrificed a pawn in the opening and I hung onto it through over ninety moves and 8.5 hours of play before securing the draw. Towards the end of that game, you said something--do not recall now what, I was offended and we had words, but we talked about things afterwards and it was simple tension amidst a difficult game. Thereafter, it pleases me to note, we always got on well, including two more tournament games, in 1988 and 1996. |
