Feb-28-14  TheTamale: This was back when Kopec was one of the 3 "Super K's": Karpov, Korchnoi, and Kopec. Soon thereafter Kasparov would join their ranks, making it 4.

Just kidding, of course. I remember Kopec wistfully mentioning something like that in an old issue of Chess Life...

  perfidious: One of the gentlemen from the Midlands took an excursion to Israel soon after its creation, met a girl at a kibbutz and voila! A little Danny!

First met Danny at the board in the 1982 New England Open, a draw which lasted 8.5 hours and over ninety moves, as he sacrificed a pawn in the opening and I hung grimly onto the material. In mutual time trouble, he got put out with me over something or other and we snapped at each other, but thereafter, we got on well. Good thing--we met in the blitz event at that tournament and twice more in long games, years on, Danny winning both of those.
