If the white king goes to h6 then White could be winning. |

 | | perfidious: In R+4 vs R+3, both players should aim to get the pawn to h5. Even here, Black can draw, but things are tougher when the superior side gains so much space. |

Jun-01-24 | | whiteshark: Well, the black pawn configuration is perhaps suboptimal. Will it be enough to win? In any case, black will have to defend accurately for some time. Game Collection: 11_R+P (3:2)|| on the same wing |

 | | perfidious: <whiteshark>, as I said, the defender's task is more difficult if he lets the opponent get the pawn to the fifth rank. I had this ending twice and my first opponent did not defend correctly and lost, but the second one held the draw by getting his pawn to h5. |

 | | Sally Simpson: Hi Perfidious,
Most of the comments on that threads game were because they had Anand's face on the dancing Rook. Other than that Carlsen won this game, everyone is so used to it what more can one say. And speaking of Rooks. I saw Ohio's comment so at I looked review game. Rxd6 looks bad, Black can put up stiffer resistance by keeping the Rooks on. The Black King appears to be in the right area. (hark at me trying to pretend I know what I'm talking about in a Rook ending.) More likely is Black did not fancy sitting through a grind to try and get a draw only to face Carlsen in Armageddon. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Sally> trading Rooks was a resignation. I would tip my King over instead. |

Is it as bad as that. I'm sad enough to continue with the Rooks on till I am convinced. |

 | | HeMateMe: Apparently, it was not a table base draw. Someone noted earlier this week that "Magnus has a habit of winning these kind of [GM drawish] games." |

 | | Sally Simpson: I'm reading the chessbase report on this round https://en.chessbase.com/post/norwa... apparently Black can hold the draw if they play Rb1 instead of 77..Rxd6. Good because I was toiling to see a forced win after Rb1. I thought it would be tricky. The Black King is very handy. I can use this. It's topical. A good player messed it up. How to hold it and then onto the distant opposition Carlsen used to win it. I'll get one of other coaches to do it. 🤷♂️ |
