THE COCKROACH THAT ATE CINCINNATI!>

Black decided to get involved in one of those <EXCHANGING MELEES> which are usually bad for Black.

9...Ng4.
Before that move everything was so simple. What's that song?

So now Black has to do that 7-year-old child calculation: <he takes that, then I take that, then he takes that and he takes that...>

Anyway, after 10...Ng4

... White is a piece up.

That is the end of my contribution to the famous Keeney - Hoy Ohio State Championship (1934).

keypusher: Compare Lasker vs C Golmayo, 1893 where Black castled rather than playing ...Bd7 before unleashing the fateful ...Ng4. He was able to avoid the immediate loss of a piece, but wound up resigning in the face of implacable mate.

Like Golmayo, Hoy might have stayed in the game with 11....Qd7.
