An Englishman: Good Evening: Can't recall ever seeing the c6, d5, d4, e6 pawn structure even once before in my entire life.

I think the "Y" looks like handlebars on a chopper:

We're not likely to see it again <Englishman>!

(This aint gonna be an easy save with the way this sight has gone half-functional, but we'll give it a few tries.)

fredthebear: Just four tries was all it took, for those of you keeping score at home.
Mar-07-24  TheaN: Not sure if I'd classify this as Thursday. It's more of a 'feel' sacrifice than anything, which IMO rates more difficult. Though, in the starting position Black is worse off if he keeps Ng6 on the board, so <21....Rxg6!> makes sense. After <22.hxg6> both the text and <22....Qh4 -+>, which I played, allow all Black pieces to come to life whilst the knight and Ra1 are bystanders. Still, it's more of a positional sac than tactical and White can withstand it a bit longer by playing f5 relatively quick.
Mar-07-24  mel gibson: I saw that but I didn't know if it would work.

Stockfish 16 says:

score for Black +4.86 depth 41.

Mar-07-24  Mayankk: My idea was 22 ... Rxg6 23 hxg6 Qh4, threatening 24 ... Qg3+, 25 Bxf4, 26 e5 etc. when the two Bishops along with Queen threaten to rip open White Kingside, even before White has time to bring its Knight into play.

The key here is to note that White is basically playing a piece short - a Knight on the rim is dim as we know. So effectively we are 2B versus R and that is usually a win for the 2B side.

Surprising that Anand got his Knight stuck so far away from action. He is usually quite good with his horses.

He was listening to Dire Straights music before the round.

After 11...O-O, the queenside pawn structure resembles a reversed Nimzo-Indian. So, hitting Black's c5-pawn with 12.Na4 and a subsequent Ba3... makes sense in isolation.

Unfortunately for White, the situation on the kingside is not analogous to the Nimzo-Indian. Here, Black has a lead in development and can rapidly break with ...f6 and bring a knight to d4. This gives Black such a strong initiative that White could find no time to exploit the weakness at c5 or even to bring the a4-knight back into the game.
