 | | MissScarlett: <Including rapid/exhibition games: Magnus Carlsen beat Alireza Firouzja 12 to 1, with 3 draws.> Magnus had a poor - but not this poor, I think - early record against Vishy. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: This database doesn't include the blitz match they played on chess24 which Firouzja won 8.5 to 7.5 , so its skewered more in Carlsen's favour. Besides, it will be unusual for the reigning World Champ in his absolute prime not to show some dominance over a 17 year old, regardless of who that 17 year old is. Carlsen himself used to get owned very badly by an ageing Anand and Kramnik when he was a similar age to Firouzja is now. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: Also, in a lot of those games, Carlsen has gotten some very strange luck. He has been outplayed multiple times by the kid, but Alireza didnt deliver the decisive blow. He'll learn |

 | | MissScarlett: < This database doesn't include the blitz match they played on chess24 which Firouzja won 8.5 to 7.5 , so its skewered more in Carlsen's favour. > But they were Banter Blitz. Magnus seemed to be doing a lot more chatting than Alireza. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: <Miss Scarlett> That's not very accurate. Up until 2008 , Anand had a score of 13 to 3 against Magnus Carlsen. And remember, Anand was already 36 at the time of their 1st meeting in 2005. Carlsen was 28 years old in his 1st meeting with Firouzja in 2018. Including the banter blitz games (i see no reason why they should not be included if chess960 is), the record is 19-8 in Carlsen's favour over Firouzja. Carlsen's record against Kramnik at a similar age was 7-1 in Kramnik's favour until Carlsen started fighting back. I don't see what's so unusual. |
Feb-02-21
 | | MissScarlett: I didn't claim Alireza's results against Magnus were unusual or surprising. That's why I drew a parallel with Magnus against Anand. But 13-3 isn't as bad as 12-1, so yes I was indeed accurate. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: It's 19-8. You can't just dismiss banter blitz games. That was a serious match and Carlsen was visibly rattled. |
Feb-02-21
 | | MissScarlett: I'm sure they've played many dozens of bullet games on chess.com. Maybe you'd care to include those as well. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: You already know bullet is never included in such things. Get real and accept the facts. |
Feb-02-21
 | | MissScarlett: I'm not sure about that. <cg> does have some 1+1 bullet games from events such as chess.com Speed Chess (2020). What I am sure about is that banter blitz is never included in such things. Get real. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: Okay it doesn't get included but your boy lost so you block it out like it never happened. But Carlsen was visibly shaken and was taking the match very seriously. More seriously than I should have taken you of course. |
Feb-02-21
 | | MissScarlett: He's not my boy, but it sounds like Alireza is yours. If Magnus was surprised at the result of the Banter Blitz it's presumably because he'd already been getting the better of the kid online. After the defeat, I think he made a point of saying he'd take him more seriously from now on, in other words, he was looking for revenge. And the results have shown that. On top of which he's thrown in a couple of barbs about the kid getting nervous, literally shaking, under pressure. |
Feb-02-21 | | fisayo123: As can be seen, the chessgames.com database is not the end all and be all database for "vs" matchups. In fact, its known for not really being as complete as some other game databases, especially for modern era games. https://2700chess.com/games?search=... <Total Score (including blitz/rapid/exhibition) Carlsen, Magnus beat Firouzja, Alireza 19 to 8, with 6 draws> This database ^ includes what you don't want to be included <Miss Scarlett> Carlsen and Firouzja have not played any bullet match under an organized setting other than a ton of casual games so its ridiculous to compare those off hand casual games to the banter blitz series which was a well publicized event which lasted several months and included several GM's or to the bullet games of the well promoted Speed chess championship. So your initial comment about Carlsen vs Anand / Carlsen vs Firouzja was actually false since Carlsen's 3-13 is much worse than Firouzja's 8-19. And of course his 1-7 against Kramnik for good measure. But I know i'm preaching to the choir and you're desperate for attention so ill let you have the final word. |
