Dec-06-11 | | YouRang: Hmmm, Carlsen just let go of his h-pawn? |
Dec-06-11 | | beenthere240: Kramnik doesn't have to move react to a pawn push on the queenside. b3, a4, then what? a5 b4. I don't see how you could creat an a4b5 wedge without getting Kramnik to agree ahead of time not to take the a4 pawn when it was undefended. |
Dec-06-11 | | beenthere240: Carlsen is getting too cute. He deserves a smackdown. |
Dec-06-11 | | YouRang: Maybe it's brilliant. If 31...Rxh6 32.f5 forces black to relinquish control of 6th rank, allowing Kd6. Black may be feeling uncomfortable with his king surrounded by open dark squares vs. white's DSB. |
Dec-06-11
 | | Gypsy: <YouRang: Hmmm, Carlsen just let go of his h-pawn?> Probably not. That pawn may give Black an indigestion. |
Dec-06-11 | | beenthere240: I think ...Kd7 (to step out of the discovere check) is fine for black. I think Carlsen believes that the h pawn is poisoned -- but I'm sure Kramnik is making sure. |
Dec-06-11
 | | maxi: Black's problem is that, if White's Rook penetrates via either the e or the g columns, it becomes very dangerous for his King, due to the opposite-color bishops. |
Dec-06-11 | | unferth: if Rxh6, f5 Rh5 Bd4+ Kd7 f6, maybe |
Dec-06-11
 | | plang: But if he doesn't take the pawn then White still gets to play f5 and seems to have a real initiative. |
Dec-06-11 | | beenthere240: Brilliant. Kramnik offers a pawn of his own -- while stopping the f5 threat. |
Dec-06-11
 | | plang: ..so Kramnik tries to prevent f5 |
Dec-06-11
 | | plang: The payers deserve credit for finding resources that the average player would never of dreamed of. |
Dec-06-11 | | haydn20: On another front, Naka seems to have gone from a losing position to one with drawing chances. Anand may have helped him. |
Dec-06-11 | | beenthere240: I find this game really instructive, since it would have been very easy to have agreed to a draw without even considering all the possiblities. I'm sure a lot of lesser players with black would now be on the ropes. I also give Carlsen credit for bringing the fight to Kramnik. |
Dec-06-11 | | knighterrant999: <haydn> God forbid Anand should actually win a game. |
Dec-06-11 | | whiteshark: White's better piece-coordination starts to create some (serious) threats. |
Dec-06-11
 | | chancho: Anand is choking Naka's intestines. |
Dec-06-11
 | | Domdaniel: <chancho> -- < Anand is choking Naka's intestines.>
That takes guts. |
Dec-06-11
 | | maxi: Interesting figure of speech, <chancho>. I think I am going to stay away from that game. |
Dec-06-11 | | boz: If Carlsen can pull this off I'll be astonished yet again. |
Dec-06-11
 | | maxi: Now it is beginning to look very drawish. |
Dec-06-11 | | haydn20: Holy sh**! Anand put together a string of crummy moves and may be losing! |
Dec-06-11 | | YouRang: Well, Kramnik offers to exchange rooks while white's king is in a stronger position... |
Dec-06-11
 | | Domdaniel: I know both of these guys are rewriting chess theory by their willingness to play out endings that were previously given up as draws ... but after the Rooks go, it's difficult to see any other result but a draw. |
Dec-06-11
 | | maxi: Even for Carlsen. |
