Jan-05-08  Dr. Funkenstein: Wow, it's not everyday you get to shred a player rated 200 points higher than you with an all out onslaught like that. Congratulations to Poobasalingam!!

From the main hastings web site author Steve Giddins, 13 ...Kxh6 leads to Qd2+ and

14. . . Kh5 15. g4+ Nxg4 (if Kh4 then Qh6) 16. fxg4 Qxg4+ 17. Kh1 and then Be2 and Rf5 will decide the game

14. . . Kg7 15. Qg5+ Kh8 then I believe Qxf6 and Qh6 should be good enough for the win

Jan-06-08  timhortons: poobalasingam must have seen karjakin and vokovic sac of g7...

OhioChessFan: One of the better puns I saw in the voting booth results.
Sep-26-21  Brenin: Sadly, Peter Poobalasingam died at the age of 27, after jumping from a bridge onto a busy road. The coroner recorded an open verdict.

offramp: This is the 4...♕h4 variation and the black queen was very energetic.

An Englishman: Good Evening: After 8.Nf5, White has won every game in the database, despite Black's castling. Perhaps the King remains safer-ish by moving to Kd8, as in the older lines, such as Schiffers vs Chigorin, 1897.

offramp: The great Steinitz believed in the 4...Qh4 variation and I think it'll survive the 8.Nf5 idea.

Good old, reliable NN invented this opening in Mephisto vs NN, 1883.

NN 's TN must be the oldest TN since books were invented.

In this line there was a TN at move 5! It was at Gandalf vs XINIX, 2001.

Teyss: <offramp> Even when NN makes a TN he gets thoroughly BTN (that pun gets a 0.02 on HISPIDU).

The oldest game in the database with 4...Qh4 is W J Lewis vs W Perry, 1819.

There are two other games with the pseudo sac 12.Nxg7, surprisingly recent: Z Vukovic vs Mozetic, 1991 and Karjakin vs V Malinin, 2002
