Jan-21-07 | | TrueBlue: no xenophon, that's an excellent thought to start the week off! |
Jan-21-07 | | AVA: radjabov missed kf1 lol |

Jan-21-07
 | | chancho: 0-1 official |
Jan-21-07 | | chessic eric: with ...Kf1 Aronian wins. But after Ng3+ the option to simply win the knight before it trades for f-pawn wasn't there. |
Jan-21-07 | | beenthere240: kf1 how brilliant. the f pawn queens after all. |

Jan-21-07 | | radu stancu: Great game by Aronian! And thanks chessgames for bringing it to us. :) |
Jan-21-07 | | percyblakeney: Great win for Aronian, it was time for him to wake up in the tournament after 6 fairly short draws in the 7 previous rounds. Radjabov ran into very good opening preparation when he maybe had expected a comfortable draw... |
Jan-21-07 | | ahmadov: A sad result for Radja but he still has chances to win the tournament... |
Jan-21-07 | | orik: there was a chance to make a draw i think... |
Jan-21-07 | | Marmot PFL: As I said during the game 52.Kc6 looks like a better drawing chance. Ke6 looks natural, but note that the king never captures any of these pawns anyway. It might as well do so via Kc6xb6, then the knight doesn't have to screw around with Nc8xb6-d5, but can head straight over to the kingside via Nc6, then maybe Ne7, while the king gets back quickly too: Kc5-d4 etc. while the black king has to come across from a4. Not to say this definitely draws, but I could not find a win. Of course Aronian didn't have to play 49.Kb4 and let the king in either. |
Jan-21-07 | | Ulhumbrus: 10...Bxc3 concedes the bishop pair, but on 11 bxc3 Ne4 forks the c3 pawn and White's QB. 15 Bf4 instead of 15 Bh4 makes it possible to reply to ...dxe3 with Bxe3.17 Be1 imposes only a temporary pin and drops the e3 pawn. After 21..Nxc5 Aronian has won a pawn and proceeds to win the game thereafter. |
Jan-21-07 | | boz: <mateo: No, you asked what was my assessment at the beginning of the ending and I answered Black wins slowly.> Yes, exactly right. Amazing King journey when you think about it. I wonder if Aronian's King knew when he first began edging toward the pawn on d-6 how far he would go. "But the King is not conscious," you object, " he is but a chesspiece." True, but I always like to think that he is. |
Jan-22-07 | | Eyal: <boz> Just the king, or the other pieces as well? |
Jan-22-07 | | Ingolf: He is a mother helping her little child across a street, the f-pawn being the child and the white knight heavy traffic (horse carriages conceivably). |
Jan-22-07 | | boz: <Eyal: They're alive. I've heard them speak.> |
Jan-23-07 | | ArmeniaNL: to my opinion Aronian is one of the best end game players, if you do not belive just have a look the game above |
Jan-23-07 | | Eyal: <ArmeniaNL> Aronian's endgame play here was certainly good and instructive to watch, but I don't think there was anything exceptional about its level - relative to the generally high level of play at this tournament, of course. Every 2700+ grandmaster would be expected to win the ending that arises after 21...Nxc5 (a pawn up, pawn majority on both sides, not too many difficulties in blocking white's passer on d5) - that's his bread-and-butter (or "technique", as they say). To my mind, the really impressive thing was Aronian's opening preparation (which I'm assuming since he played very quickly at this stage), that led him to this ending. If Aronian indeed reached in his preparation the position after Black's 21st move, that's probably where he could stop analyzing in detail and say "ok, that should be winning for Black". |
Jan-24-07 | | ajile: White's 12th and 13th moves look bad to me. After this sequence White looks to be defending weaknesses the rest of the game. |
Jan-31-07 | | argishti: finally a result i was hoping for!! and there it is... |
Feb-18-08
 | | GlassCow: Excellent technique by Aronian to take the full point. |
Mar-12-09 | | dwavechess: 47/65 concur with Rybka 3 at 3 min. per move for Aronian |
