chessgames.com: You're reading Chess Partner's evaluation backwards Hoozits, when it shows negative values that means the player on the move is losing, not that Black is necessarily winning. Crafty and others finally were smart enough to normalize it so that negative numbers mean Black is winning and positive numbers means White is winning.
Jan-21-06  Stevens: <evaluation of about -3.6 in favor of black> are you sure you're reading the engine right? white is still way ahead here.
Jan-21-06  THE pawn: <Ulhumbrus> <Is this user-name a form of disguised profanity? If so, bear in mind that women and children may be using this website.>

Why women? You're talking like they would be tromatised or something.

Jan-21-06  mack: Um -- what came be done about ...Nf5?
Jan-21-06  Averageguy: 28.Qf1 here?
Jan-21-06  Hoozits: Thanks, Chessgames. I was unaware of that! Well, I suppose we have a different story, then...
Jan-21-06  TheKid: What's he going to do after Qf1?
Jan-21-06  Holden: Nf5, Ng3#
Jan-21-06  capatal: It is way past gametime for Sokolov.

keypusher: Fritz 8 has it 3.31 for White. Fritz thought 21...fe was OK, wonder what happened.

  ozchess: what about Qf5?
Jan-21-06  Hoozits: I still wonder if ..., e3 here or on the next move or two isn't correct?!
Jan-21-06  whatthefat: <Ulhumbrus>:
<Is this user-name a form of disguised profanity?> tsk, tsk, tsk. It takes a certain mind to think this way. :)

And I maintain that Topalov has a very good position, although as you say, maybe not straight away winning. Specifically: 18.exd5 Nxd5 19.Ba3 c5 20.Re1 f6 21.Nf5 looks very good for white.

Jan-21-06  jhoro: i ran crafty and if sokolov had played 20...fxe5 21.hxg4 exd4 22.Nd4 topalov was still up +1.24. in the line sokolv picked he white is +2.40. so either way white was winning. perhaps sokolv tried to surprise him
Jan-21-06  badest: Nbd4?
Jan-21-06  crafty: 28. ♗g5 ♖f8 29. ♗xe7 ♖f2 30. ♕g1 ♖d2 31. ♘d4   (eval 3.86; depth 13 ply; 150M nodes)
Jan-21-06  LluviaSean: uh oh..move fast sololov...
Jan-21-06  mang00neg: CM has +3.5

Jan-21-06  Hoozits: I will say that it seems that computers have a tough time evaluating abstract ideas such as initiative, momentum and the like...perhaps Sokolov isn't quite as bad as -3.3?
Jan-21-06  Woodpusher: tsk tsk Ivan you've only got 8 minutes to make this move and a dozen more.
Jan-21-06  srs555: computers are materialistic
