An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Preiswerk also defeated Rubinstein and drew Alekhine in simuls. Seems like a rather tough opponent.

Honza Cervenka: It is apparent that black was very strong player. But he could win this game much faster with 18...c3! 19.Qxd4 c2 -+
May-27-24  Allderdice83: 17. Rd1?? is a serious blunder, incredible for a player like Lasker to miss 17 ... Nd4! The position goes from +0.5 to -1.5 right away. 18. Qd2?? compounds the blunder, and now Black can win right away with 18 ... c3!, the point being 19. Qxd4 c2! 20. Qxd8 Rcxd8! 21. Rxd8 cxb1=Q 22. Rd1 Rc8 (-6.0). 18 ... e5? is a serious error (the only reason I give it only one "?" is that 18 ... c3 requires some calculation) which nearly equalizes for White, but Lasker errs again with 21. e3? and 22. Qf1? (22. exd4 was necessary), and from there it's just a slaughter.

  offramp: Who remembers <User: funnyfamilystar>?

She made 6 pithy kibitzes in 2017, 2018 & 2019 and then...nothing.

She believes that she was slighted. She sits by her keyboard, silently seething, waiting for the perfect moment <when she will burst back into the virtual room> with a triumph cry of <AHA!!> and unmask her detractors, devastate her enemies and annihilate her foes.

In the meantime she crafted a beautiful pun, which may end as her lasting memorial.

offramp: ...And I love the pun, which was conceived by User: funnyfamilystar, many years ago.

I am <not> one of the detractors; I am <NOT> going to be unmasked in the library with a candlestick.

<BUT SOMEONE DID> - someone submitted today's pun to the dreaded <HISPIDU>.

Looks like she got busted.

<She gotta getta a betta pun dude 😎🗿! YEAH stick it in UR meerschaum😎DUDE. Time 4 a NU Mark Lamarr 1950s hairstyle DUDE LOL🎱💯>.

I think that sums it up.

Lasker actually passed up several opportunities to develop that B to a3 with good effect. He chose instead to leave it on its starting square where it became worse than useless. E.g. after <22...Qxa2> the R on b1 is doomed just because the B was there to get in the way.

A good GOTD even if the pun is more stewed than builder's tea.
