Mar-09-06  Cyphelium: <tpstar> The last few moves must have felt very good for you! Just playing 17. ♕h5 and there you go black, solve your problems now while I go for another cup of coffee.

Concerning the slithering out of e5-e4 mentioned back at Tarrasch vs M Kuerschner, 1891, I do wonder what you had in mind after 11.- e4? Perhaps 12. ♗f4, but then the strange-looking 12.- ♘de5 looks better for black; indeed 13. ♘xg7+ ♗xg7 14. ♘xe5 0-0 even seems . Better is 13. ♘xe5 ♗b4+ 14. ♔f1 ♗xe6 15. ♘xc6 bxc6 (15.- ♕xc6!?) 16. ♗e2/c2 0-0, but it doesn't look too good either. Maybe there something better on move 12?

FSR: Will you look at that: I mention Tony Palmer, and just hours later chessgames uses my pun for his game. Only a little over nine years since I submitted it.

FSR: My former personal record for longest time between pun submission and GOTD was 9 years and 20 days for Short vs A A Lopez, 2008. This one beats that by just under a week, clocking in at 9 years and 26 days. The all-time record AFAIK is W Zili vs Hug, 1989 (evidently 10 years, 3 months and 8 days from pun submission to GOTD).

Thank you for your game comment Ron! It's unfortunate this Rogoff skit is all over the game pages interrupting the game conversation.

That's quite a compliment to tpstar.

FSR: It is a nice game, but Black played badly. You can't just hang your g-pawn with check and expect to be OK.

perfidious: <CIO>, I played now and again on ICC even before that; things usually went well on that front.
