Aug-13-07 | | Manic: <realbrob> Just like to point out that that a puzzle generally has only 1 unique solution :P. |
Aug-13-07 | | rover: <sataranj> Qf6 is strange and Ng4 is outright bad (moving a piece twice in the opening with little purpose). Qc6 lost immediately becouse after Qf4! there's no good answer to the double threat of Nxc7+ and Qxg4. 6...Qd8 was relatively better but white has a better position becouse of his lead in development. |
Aug-13-07 | | Autoreparaturwerkbau: <realbrob> Well, indeed. In your case you have to really struggle hard in order not to win. :) The problem with "very very very easy" and "very very easy" puzzle is that a week doesn't have 9 days... Otherwise - good idea! |
Aug-13-07 | | Fourpointo: I use this move against amateurs all the time, it's more of a common trap than a one time puzzle to me. |
Aug-13-07 | | RandomVisitor: Eastwood: I know what you're thinking. "Did he forget his Queen and King are on the same diagonal?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a Queen, the most powerful piece on the board, and would blow your pieces clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? |

 | | Sneaky: <Fourpointo: I use this move against amateurs all the time> Well let's not kid ourselves, we're amateurs too, but I know what you mean. I remember playing a string of games with some anonymous guest user on ICC, and I pulled a combination exactly like this. He sat there and looked at the board for about a minute, and finally typed "Woah!" |
Aug-13-07 | | soberknight: "cr 1949" - If this was a correspondence game, I can only wonder how Black would have fared over the board. Yeesh, that was awful. |
Aug-13-07 | | andrews: After a minute of looking for a mate, I saw the pin 8.Bb5. |
Aug-13-07
 | | Phony Benoni: <realbrob> 1.Qf2, right? |
Aug-13-07 | | MikeChesss: I saw it. Pin the queen and then fork it after she captures the bishop. I'm glad that I was able to overcome my prejudice to look for a Queen sac. |
Aug-13-07 | | Creg: <RandomVisitor> LOL, That's great! hehehe...LOL. |
Aug-13-07 | | willyfly: I spent some time trying to find a ♕ sac and then wondered what else I could sac and then suddenly there it is 8 ♗b5 ♕xb5 9. ♘xc7+
----
Even though Barnett turned Eastwood every which way but loose - all these Clint Eastwood jokes are unforgiven - but for a few dollars more I'd make up one myself - it would be a good joke - cuz if it was bad - things might get ugly |
Aug-13-07 | | realbrob: <Manic> You're right, my "puzzle" has something like 4 solutions. Should've put the king on f7, so White has one mating move. |
Aug-13-07 | | skemup: clint what have you done??:)
easy but took me 30 sec. |
Aug-13-07 | | beenthere240: 6. Nd5 was a nice move (moving the same piece twice admittedly) but putting the heat on black. |
Aug-13-07 | | Marvol: <Phony Benoni: <realbrob> 1.Qf2, right?> I find 1.Qa7! to be more artistic.
Pretty bad that that puzzle has more than one solution, don't you think? |
Aug-13-07 | | Tactic101: Ouch! Bb5 and it's game over. But the part about this being correspondance just makes it even more hilarious. |
Aug-13-07 | | Mostolesdude: I really doubt this player was Clint Eastwood. Clint graduated from High School in 49 and then joined the army afterwards. I dont think he was into chess at all in 1949. |
Aug-13-07 | | Sibahi: this is not correspondence. I think cr stands for circa. |
Aug-13-07
 | | monopole2313: I thought Clyde was the name of the orangutan. |
Aug-13-07 | | PAWNTOEFOUR: ohhhhh,i'm so glad it's monday!! Bb5!.....now ferocious beast would have solved this one yesterday |
Aug-13-07 | | YouRang: An oldie, but a goodie. I think this combination was in the first chess book I ever saw as a kid. |
Aug-13-07
 | | playground player: Zap! Looks like Barnett made Eastwood's day by playing Qc6. I had my puzzle-solving streak snapped at 13 over the weekend, so I hope this starts another one. |
Aug-13-07 | | Jack Kerouac: Clint Eastwood anagram:
Old West Action. |
Aug-13-07 | | kevin86: Rare is it an opportunity to pull off a pin or a fork in less than ten moves-he white does both. d6 looked good-it opened a line and defended the knight at g4. Alas,it also opened the line between black's royalty. White takes advantage of a "knight triangle" b5-c7-e8. to set up a fork on the king and queen should black capture at b5. Black sees it all-and gives up the ship. Funny Monday puzzle: here we trap the queen instead of sacrificing it. |
