Nov-30-07  sambo: About 44...Bxf3, Alekhine comments "Suicidal. After 44...Qh3 45. Qg2 Qf5 there would have been in sight no continuation holding out victory for White. Now, of course, the game is lost."

Peligroso Patzer: Alekhine's assessment of 44. ... Bxf3 (quoted above by <Sambo>) seems dubious. What really seems to have been Black's fatal error was 46. ... Kf5, giving up the e-pawn and granting White's DSB access to targets on the Q-side. With 46. ... Rf6, Black might still have had chances to hold.

"Van Gogh did some eyeball pleasers.
He must have been a pencil squeezer.
He didn't do the Mona Lisa,
That was an Italian Geza."
- Ian Dury.
