In contrast, his win against the tired Caruana was like sawing a trunk of tree. They are putting GM Wesley So down, because, GM Wesley So is now representing the most distinguished of all chess federations, the United States Chess Federation, USCF. |

Caruana had a good position from the opening, but he had to play actively to try to pressure his opponent. He was even winning at some point with a quick c5 break that he missed." White has a decisive advantage.
In the positions when other pieces still exist on the board, the opposite colors bishops are far from assuring that the game will be a draw. As Delchev pointed out in such positions of primary importance is the king's safety. It is important to attack the opponent’s king as fast as possible. Now, Caruana's terrible record in recent years in classical games against the Najdorf is 5.5/17 (since 2012). |

Jun-29-15 | | toyosaki: I'd say So did a one hit wonder, it can happpen to anyone. Caruana's lose was an indication he is exhausted from the previous tourney, jet lag and so forth. <For an opportunist, opportunity knocks just once!> I agree. |
|
Jun-29-15 | | Marmot PFL: "In general it seems Caruana doesn’t have a good feel for the dynamics in the Najdorf. Tries to keep it positional and under control when you need to be tactical, and too tactical when you need to keep it under control." H. Nakamura |

Jun-30-15 | | gokusano: Just backread the thread of beronio's page and you'll see who's got the more filthy mind. You criticize only the former fans not the current ones who are sporadically assaulting the page from time to time posting their hatred to what you call 'former fans' . You've got biased judging. That's life, you criticize only those who do not side with you. |

Jun-30-15 | | epistle: I agree 100%. That was in fact the reason why he got creamed by Nisipeanu and will get creamed again soon. Shintaro wrote "<It's> laughable and pathetic" so he wasn't referring to former fans. Otherwise he would have written: "<They're> laughable and pathetic." He was actually referring to the first round game of Wesley. |

Wesley So do not care much about the criticisms of patzers like us ... we don't know much about chess... maybe <gatus> knew more than us ... |

 | | PawnSac: < 10.exd5 ? >
First of all, i'm nowhere near Caruana's caliber, and respect
his ability, so don't want to sound presumptuous in any way,
but; I don't like exd5 here for 2 reasons:
a) the only structural weakness in black's position is the
backward D pawn, which should be targeted if you want to
exploit it. So why shield it with the white pawn?! Furthermore if the Pd5 gets targeted, it is more difficult to support
with c4 due to the black Pb4. It would take 3 tempi to support
with another pawn, and THAT one would be backward on an open
file. Not the endgame I would want
b) exd5 is a non-threatening move, so it lets black steal the initiative, whereas Qxd5 targets the rook, not giving black time for ..h5 While thinking about Qxd5 and Be3 I did a position search in
the CG database and found..
A Rasmussen vs F Elsness, 2011 Here Rasmussen played 10.Qxd5!? Ra7 11.Be3 Be6 12.Qd2 Rb7
13.Bg2 Be7 14.Ng3 with much better control of the light squares.
THIS is the way I'd play it.
IMHO 10.dxe5 was the beginning of Caruana's decline in this game. |

Jul-27-15 | | Tempo Gambit: I liked the game and I think if they played again So definitely has the potential to win especially in a Sicilian position, and I usually don't like chiming in on Internet debates or arguments whatever the semantics but the comment "former so fans are worse than sock puppets. It's laughable and pathetic" was definitely aimed directly at the fans not their actions not anything else but them as he is comparing them to sock puppets here people... It's an insult and it's directed toward them whether he got it grammatically correct or not is on him but it's pretty straight forward what he's saying. Lol |

Aug-14-15 | | thegoodanarchist: This is a STUNNING & BEAUTIFUL game by Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana. Those who see it now will not be able to appreciate the beauty of this game as much as they will in 20 years. This will be recognized as a masterpiece of chess accomplishment, similar to Reti vs Alekhine, 1925
or Karpov vs Kasparov, 1985 |

Aug-15-15 | | Barococo Prosopoeia: In twenty years you'd probably be dead already so how would you know how chessplayers (if there'd still be chess at that time) would look at games played today? No one finds this stunning at all. For stunning, see wei yi vs. Batista |

Your beliefs have no bearing on fact. Fact just ignores your stupid beliefs and continues on. |
