Phony Benoni: For an example of this opening working, see R Steel vs NN, 1886. If you're feeling particularly ambitious, analyze the games. Perhaps if J P Morgan had been Black in the other game, he could have cornered Steel.

However, it is not a good idea to set your computer to work on them. Laws against cruel and unusual punishment apply even to dumb machines.

An Englishman: Good Evening: <al wazir>, do you mean 16...Kxc7? In you line 18...Rd5 is impossible because of the Nd7. I think. This game confuses me.
Jun-28-13  Strongest Force: Does anyone know that Morgan was just a front-man/agent for the Rothchilds?
Jun-28-13  Abdel Irada: At the end of this game, J.P. Morgan's position was surely no longer chaste.

Jun-28-13  Abdel Irada: <Strongest Force: Does anyone know that Morgan was just a front-man/agent for the Rothchilds?>

You are aware that this isn't the same Morgan?

Jun-28-13  Strongest Force: Who is he, Abdel?
Jun-28-13  Abdel Irada: *This* J.P. Morgan was a Christian Scientist and a chessplayer. He died at age 32.

The J.P. Morgan you're thinking of is this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._P._....

Jun-28-13  Strongest Force: AI, I am happy the two are not related.
Jun-28-13  morfishine: Fun game, nice pun
Jun-28-13  Abdel Irada: <Strongest Force: AI, I am happy the two are not related.>

As for me, I rather wish it had been the other Morgan who'd died of tuberculosis. What he brought to the world could have been supplied by any other tycoon ruthless enough to take control, with his banking partners, of assets worth as much as those of all 22 states then west of the Mississippi.

What *this* Morgan might have brought to the world had he lived longer we unfortunately will never know.

Jun-28-13  Garech: Great game!! Only Steinitz himself can play the Steinitz gambit, it seems!

He can't do that. He's too busy giving God pawn-and-move odds, and that means he always has to play Black.

Jun-28-13  Strongest Force: "We...will never know"

AI , unfortunately we do know. It led to a world ruling corporate empire which does not respect any nation's sovereignty. Leaders like Morgan die but others take their place and the Fed Reserve rules.

Jun-28-13  Mendrys: Another thing that we do not know is whether or not JP Morgan would have been replaced by someone more corrupt and ruthless. Perhaps someone more entrenched in some Ayn Randian fantasy, or worse, some Stalinist fantasy.

What I said we will never know is what <Joseph Palmer Morgan> might have done had he lived.

Jun-28-13  kevin86: White king chased to b6-definitely not the time to hollar BINGO

Domdaniel: Isn't this the same sacrificial line of the Steinitz Gambit as was played by Steel vs NN? Aha, <Phony Benoni> has already given the link.

Check It Out: Too bad this wasn't played in Manhattan, then "JP Morgan chased in Manhattan" would have ruled as a pun!
Jun-28-13  JohnBoy: About time one of my stunningly brilliant puns was adopted! (Just kidding - thanks CG)
Jun-30-13  Moszkowski012273: Hahahaha! We DO have a chess player by the name of JP Morgan in Manhattan!

Fusilli: This is a rare example of a really good pun, i.e. one that combines a player's name and the nature of the game.

  GrahamClayton: 18. ♘xd7+ ♖xd7 19. ♗xf4 ♕xa1 20. ♔b6 seems to be a quicker win - Black has no satisfactory defence against 21. ♘a6#.
