chancho: Taking the Rook on c6 will leave Pillsbury with a Rook vs Steinitz's new born Queen after the ensuing exchanges. But even worse: he'll get mated in 3 moves.
Oct-27-11  SChesshevsky: I first thought to try to improve White at 28.a4 with 28.Qb5 but after 28...Qxb5 29.cxb5 Rxc1 30. Rxc1 Bd6 I didn't get much out of it.

But after the games 28.a4 a5 and now both Black's backward pawns are on the sixth it would seem 29.Qb5 Qxb5 30.cxb5 Rxc1 30. Rxc1 Bd6 would work better.

Was 28..a5 weak?
