Feb-03-05  darook: <Catfriend> 18.Nxd6 does help actually (18.Rxe6 is better/quicker). 18.♘xd6 ♗xd6 19. ♖xe6 fxe6 20.♕g6+ ♔h8 21. ♗xd6 and White has a won game. 19... ♘xe6 doesn't help Black either since 20.♘f5+ is decisive.
Feb-03-05  patzer2: <SouCapi> 17...gxh4 18. Qxh6 f5 19. Re6?! may not be a blunder, but it is not as good as going ahead and taking the draw by reptition with Queen checks.

Black is better after 17...gxh4 18.Qxh6 f5 19.Rxe6 Nxe6 20.Qxe6+ Rf7 21.Bxd6 (21.Nxd6 Bxd6 22.Bxd6 Nf4! 23.Bxf4 Qxf4–+) 21...Bxd6 22.Nxd6 Nf4 23.Qxf7+ Qxf7 24.Nxf7 Kxf7 25.Bxf5–+

Without a board at work though, you did
pretty good. However, you seem to have overlooked 22. Bxd6 Nf4! -- a neat defensive Knight Fork which Fritz 8 found.

Feb-03-05  ice lemon tea: 16...g5? what a blunder! i don't see any importance for black to do such move.
Feb-03-05  DP12: I saw Rxe6 only after 45 seconds (way too long). But that was probably because I was distracted by the following line 18.Nf5+!? exf5 19.Rxe7 Nxe7(Qxe7 Nxd6 and white takes on f5) 20.Nxd6 then white is threatening to attack the queen but 20... f4! is good
Feb-04-05  SouCapi: <patzer2> Yep, 22...♘f4 is pretty strong. Thanks again for checking my lines.
Oct-28-06  syracrophy: 16. Nh4 <Bogoljubow wrote the following commentaries: "White has posted a curious trap with the move 16.♘h4. If now, 16...♗xh4 17.♗xh4 ♘f4, and Torre would have continued with 18.♕g4!! ♘xd3 19.♗f6 g5<If 19...g6 then 20.♕h4 ♔h7 21.♘e3! > 20.♕h5 ♔h7 21.♗xg5 f6 and will all security, Torre would have found here the winning way>16...g5 17.   WannaBe: Okay, why is this about an ex-Yankees manager, and current Dodgers manager?!?!?!

Don't get it.... =)

Feb-11-08  newzild: I reckon a better pun would have been "Club Samisch".

Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> The first Torre is for the player of the White pieces, the second for the opening, and the third for the rook which gets sacrificed.
Feb-11-08  chessamateur: I'm going to take a stab. I'm guessing the pun is after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, "Tora, Tora, Tora".
Feb-11-08  Jim Bartle: Phony Benon: Great note on the triple "Torre." Outstanding.
Feb-11-08  whiteshark: <syracrophy> Bogoljubow' commentary <One of the longest and hardest combinations Torre has ever made. <peer gynt> is going to be mortally offended by this one.

Feb-11-08  kevin86: As usual,in these quick games, the winner's pieces are poised to attack while the loser's are just sitting there.

Funny that Joe Torre is managing the Dodgers-it's like an ex-pope becoming the Archbishop of Canterbury!

Feb-11-08  Shams: <keypusher> <peer gynt> is going to be mortally offended by this one.>

let's tell him the actual reference is to that horrid boy-band R&B troupe from the late 80s, "Tony Toni Tone". That oughta defuse things.

Feb-11-08  Jim Bartle: "Funny that Joe Torre is managing the Dodgers-it's like an ex-pope becoming the Archbishop of Canterbury!"

I think my baseball brain will go off-line the first time I see him in "Dodger Blue." I wonder how he'll do now that he can't write "Derek Jeter SS" on the card every day.

Feb-11-08  Bobwhoosta: I thought it was "Torro Torro Torro", like the matador speaking to the bull.

Phony Benoni: I would make some comment about the Torah here, but can't think of anything appropriate because I'm too busy trying to figure out what 16...g5 was all about. Even if it didn't lose by force, it couldn't have been a good idea.
Jun-26-08  braimondi: 17 ...gxh4 and a safety draw ;P
Nov-17-12  AlessKnight: Nop, after 17..gh4 18.Qxh6 Nf6 to care h7 19.Qg5+ Kh8 20.Qh6+ Kg8 21.Bh4!

plang: Black's set-up is very Sicilian-like but I think White's open king file might be a bit more useful than the open queen file in mainline Sicilians.
