Feb-07-06  Bobak Zahmat: <KingG> You say Black's first 9/10 moves are quite naturel, I have to disagree with you. The move 3. ... Be7 isn't a common move! I am sure of it!
Feb-07-06  Bobak Zahmat: The game is completely over after Nd6!
Feb-07-06  psmith: <Bobak Zahmat> 3...Be7 is the Cunningham Gambit and is a standard defense.
Feb-07-06  Bobak Zahmat: <psmith> Thanks. I had not seen this variation before. I will take a look good at it. But Fischer's 3. ... d6!? remains the best option I think.
Jul-09-06  RookFile: The Cunningham variation is ok, but what you want to try are these ...Bh4+ lines. If what will play Kf1 in reply to the ....Qh4+ lines, then ...Bh4+ is even more useless for black.... all you've got is a bishop flapping in the breeze. It's no coincidence that in the final position if this game, black wished that he had a bishop to cover d6.
Jul-10-06  Poulsen: Another boring Morphy-game against weak opposition ...

offramp: I think it was a consultation game. The 'cg' in the header is a bit inscrutible.
Jul-10-06  Boomie: <Poulson> The game is of historical interest as Morphy is about 12 years old here. Even at this age he knew the power of proper piece development.
Jul-10-06  Poulsen: <Boomie> I am aware of Morphy's age, when he played this game. I am also aware that he won the game by having a better understanding of the importance of piece development.

I don't see however, why that makes the game of "historical interest" - unless off you want to define all games won by talented youngsters as of "historical interest".

I any case the game is, IMO, less impressive than f.x. this game won by an 11-year holding his head against world class opposition Janowski vs Reshevsky, 1922.

Now that's talent!!

Morphys many victories against "named" NN's doesn't prove anything.

Jul-16-07  JMJ565X: who is this morphy guy? he seems to be an okay player??
Jul-16-07  yavuz1990: <JMJ565X> Have you never heard Paul Morphy?? He was the best chess master of 19th century, he is the founder of open position tactics and <importance of piece development>. Please read his profile and don't make Morphy fans angry.
Jul-16-07  Atking: <In any case the game is, IMO, less impressive than f.x. this game won by an 11-year holding his head against world class opposition Janowski vs Reshevsky, 1922> Well Morphy winning 2.5 on 3 games match at twelve with Lowenthal (At time one of the best in the world (Not a "NN")) is then even more impressive.
Jul-16-07  JMJ565X: oooooh, yes, now i kno... paul morphy, a has been!!
Apr-02-08  D.Observer: What's shocking with 11. Ne4?
Apr-02-08  sneaky pete: 11.Ne4 .. threatens not only 12.Nd6+ .. but also (after 11... Bh5) 12.g3 .. winning the DSB. The game is probably incomplete, <cg> being the standard abbr of clipped game.
May-16-09  Chess4Life99: Why would black resign in this position?

Also, when looking at Morphy's player page I saw that he liked to play a lot of gambits. Do you think that because he played so many gambit he won more games?

  Sastre: 11...Be6 12.Bxe6 fxe6 13.g3 wins a piece.
Oct-20-11  Mozart72: Morphy and McConnell have the same material advantage value: 36.6, and Morphy won.
Jan-28-16  juanhernandez: is vast like UNIVERSE.
Deep like OCEAN.
High like SKY.
May-17-17  brian5668: Relatively similar to the Morphy vs Knott game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gH...
