Feb-16-03  tulkos: Whites attack seems virtually unstoppable!
Feb-17-03  aulero: Obviously 7...Bf6 was an error, like all other moves but 7...d5. Many years ago I played the following game that refuted another Bishop retreat. Incidentally the only move that required some thinking was 14.Qxh7 in order to free the g6 square for the knight.

Unusual to see a rook and queen on the 8th rank after just 13 moves.

Sep-23-24  YandyRB: Hello, is it possible to cite the primary source for the remaining 9 games available here between Lasa and Jänisch in 1842? This is interesting because Di Felice in Chess Results, 1747-1900, p.4, mentions a match between them in 1842 of only 4 games. Obviously the 10 games could have been played on different occasions in the same year. Thanks in advance.

MissScarlett: These games would be better described a la Pope as <Casual Series>. I venture that Staunton - Saint-Amant (1843) is the first match in the modern sense.

Two <Lasa - Jaenisch> games from the <CPC>, vol.iii (1842): C Jaenisch vs von der Lasa, 1842 and von der Lasa vs C Jaenisch, 1842. All three of these game scores surely came directly from von der Lasa.

Some, if not all, of the other games may not have been published before the 1850s. See kibitzing for von der Lasa vs C Jaenisch, 1842.
