Apr-18-04  WMD: <<Why do GMs EVER play out lost games such as this one.>> In a word, inertia.

<<Kasparov was only 12 years old at the time and he was only person the GM lost to!>> According to the book Fighting Chess, Romanishin was playing against 16 Soviet juniors. He lost two games, not one. The simul took place in Baku, not Leningrad.

Apr-18-04  WMD: A final point. The game score in my book says Romanishin resigned after 29...Rg5+.

Nov-24-04  Whitehat1963: A 12-year-old Kasparov checkmates a GM who is giving a simul in a game that features the opening of the day. Love the way GK walks the opponent's king all the way across the board as though he were walking a dog.
Oct-29-05  Inf: where do you get these books that tells you about the scores and all?
Dec-01-05  Chopin: Kasparov just smoked this GM. I've never really been fond of the Bird's opening.
Oct-02-06  Tenderfoot: haha, Wow, what am embarrassment...it's one thing to lose a game in a simul, but I'm sure it's quite another to get dominated by a 12 year old in one. Of course, if that 12 year old is Garry Kasparov...
Dec-22-06  Tacticstudent: my god, kasparov got some decisive tactical shots( like 13 - ... h4! and 22 - ... Qd7! ) that the poor man couldn't pay enough attention to them, since he was playing with 16 players. Both white rooks and the bishop on b2 just saw their king being taken by the powerful Kasparov's rooks pair... excellent tactic by kasparov, that's exactly what i'm looking for in this site In fact, I think that Bird opening isn't effective because black defends itself by trading white's king knight and can put on an attack on the kingside, since white's king is weakened because of the f-pawn advance.
May-14-09  WhiteRook48: Stupid!

Phony Benoni: Why didn't Romanishin resign? Obviously, it was a case of Dead Man Walking.

whitehat, thanks for the post, really well said

Oct-30-14  MrJafari: good game (not girl!). In some moves it seemed that GM didn't count his unknown opponent!

Phony Benoni: Bad luck for Romanishin, who did everything right. Once the queens were off the board he got his king into the game. And, like most kids, Black proved he didn't know anything about playing the endgame by treating it like a middle game.
Apr-29-16  yadasampati: To all people who wonder why Romanishin did not resign. Did you consider the possibility that he was just a gentleman, who liked to give the full credit to the young boy defeating him?
Apr-29-16  Oceanlake: Why not resign? Perhaps

Donald Byrne and 13-year-old Bobby Fischer in the Rosenwald Memorial Tournament

Apr-29-16  The Kings Domain: Well-executed demolition job by the young Kasparov on the Bird's opening. As a fond user of the opening I felt that white should have taken the pawn at e5 rather than support his pawn with 10) g3. Wheeling his troops on the kingside to defend it should have been foremost on Romanishin's mind considering the 13 year old's obvious intention there.
Apr-29-16  kevin86: White's king is marched to the scaffold
Apr-29-16  mruknowwho: Not that I have anything against the opening, but I have my doubts that I would attempt to give Kasparov the Bird.
Jan-31-17  Saniyat24: This is a gem...Kasparov with his windmill checks blows the White King from one corner to the other...!
Oct-20-17  Toribio3: Romanishin was demolished in cold-blood!
Jul-09-19  siggemannen: 22...Qd7 was probably a bad surprise to Romanishin
Feb-27-20  Delilah: A real good all out game!
Feb-27-20  Petrosianic: Or, in other words, "Wow!".
