Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-14-08  devioustalfan: why not an earlier ...b3 form geller(ie move 16?)
and why not an earlier Q-check on the h-file (ie move 38?)
Jul-14-08  sneaky pete: If 16... b3 17.hxg7 .. should win. I don't see what 38.Qh4/2+ Kg7 with 39... Rh8 might accomplish. Of course white's decisive mistake was 1.d4?? .. when every Russian schoolboy knows 1.e4!! .. is best by test.

Richard Taylor: Nonsense - 1 d4 is as good as 1 e4 - sorry I have to be serious -

joke taken of course

Richard Taylor: Tal's mistake was to play Geller as Geller was destined to beat (at least once) all the current World Champions!

Richard Taylor: 25. Rxg6 equalizes. (27. c3 and 29. Ke2)? etc and Black starts to gain the advantage.

16 Kb1 seems to be a slight improvement also. (Mentioned in Smith and Hall's book on the Veresov (Torre).

Jan-01-18  Grandma Sturleigh: Geller capablanked (W Winter vs Capablanca, 1919) Tal's bishop.
