Aug-16-03 | | Marnoff Mirlony: 43...Rxh5! I love that move. |
|
Nov-17-05 | | GBKnight: Great game by Fischer. Reminiscent of Topalov at San Luis this year. |
|
Jul-10-09 | | OneArmedScissor: <...was played by Fischer and is obviously a very critical variation. However, it is rarely seen as most Black players deem it to be unnecessarily risky. It is already unclear where White should put his king.> |
|
Feb-02-10 | | zev22407: 17)K-h1 was a mistake better was K-h2 and white is better. |
|
Jan-27-11 | | Pygeum Lycopene: is this one of his memorable 60 games? |
|
Jan-27-11 | | Agent Bouncy: Yes, but it's not in his book. |
|
Jan-27-11 | | Pygeum Lycopene: It Looks to me the critical error was 41.Ng3 allowing ...c4 which opened the b-file and unleashed fischer's razor sharp dynamics. Its easy to see what white was thinking also, Ng3 unpins the h1 rook. |
|
Jan-28-11 | | zev22407: To Pygeum Lycopene Gligoric gave ? to his move 41)Ng3 .
He suggested 41)R-h2! with the idea N-g3.
He also gave 43)N-f1? allowing Rxh5! |

 | | HeMateMe: Stellar endgame play. Fischer had said that he thinks about 15 moves ahead, when studying candidate moves. I guess he had the exchange sac worked out to a won endgame. |

 | | perfidious: This game may well have gone differently, had Gligoric repeated his 17th move he played at the beginning of the year: Gligoric vs K Langeweg, 1970. Gligo avoided this through fear of an improvement, and was shocked to learn that Fischer had not seen the game above! |
|
Oct-15-12 | | drunknite: 52 Re8 would offer a lot more resistance but it still difficult to save. Does anyone have experience with R/B vs R/R w/ pawns? I am trying to get some insights into this sort of endgame. The crap pc comes up with this line so far but not sure if this holds.... 52. Re8 g4
53. Re1 Rxc4
54. Rf1+ Ke5
55. Ra8 Rc2
56. Rg8 f5
57. Re8+ Kd6
58. Rg8 Ke5
59. Re8+ Kd6
60. Rd8+ Ke6
61. Re1+ Kf7
62. Rde8 Rxa2
63. R1e6 Bf6
64. Re1 f4 |

Oct-15-12 | | Oldisgold: Had Bobby played only 5 more years after being world champion, chess world would have been blessed... |
|
Oct-16-12 | | drunknite: Seeing "blessed" and "Bobby Fischer" in the same sentence is a bit odd. |
|
Oct-12-16 | | Dave12: after 67. Rg8 i would try f1=N+. just to let this fun game to continue |
|
Nov-14-16 | | Mr. Blonde: If 11.Bxf6 by white, would you recapture with the queen or bishop? I'm trying to see if anything is better, but I don't really see the diference. I think the queen would be misplaced, because I feel his way is in the queenside, but I don't know... anyone with an explanation? Thanks. PS: I know it's only a tempo and that the position is closed, but still... |

 | | kingscrusher: Fischer seemed to make a mistake here with 38... Rh6 which allows the strong 39. Nb1! . Nb1 has great ideas like Nd2-c4 blockading and putting pressure on e5 and other goodies for White. After 39.Kf3 the opportunity of Nb1 disappears because Ke5 means that Nb1 there is c4! with the tactical idea of rxb1 and Rxh5 which is an exchange sacrifice that can equalise for black. |
|
May-14-21 | | Petrosianic: I dunno, isn't an immediate 39...a4 okay for Black? I checked Fritz, and it says 0.98, but it's hard to see how White makes progress. |

 | | kingscrusher: Have a look at chessgames.com own computer analysis: Gligoric vs Fischer, 1970 [analysis] But also it is easier to see it here:

 | | beatgiant: <kingscrusher>
Thanks, but those computer lines just end after several moves, with no indication of what the actual plan is for White to make progress. To answer the question, I'm guessing White aims for the eventual pawn break with e5, undermining Black's kingside. |

 | | kingscrusher: <beatgiant> Yes that seems a good plan if the a5 pawn is dissolved - that would be another great perk of the knight on c4. Thanks for pointing that out. Cheers, K |

May-16-21 | | SChesshevsky: Does seem 38...Rh6 is a rare positional mistake by Fischer. Now both rooks are pretty immobile. Worse, it puts a major strain on g5 and f6. Then the main advantage of 39. Nb1 lines seems to center around the tricky rook shift Rdh3 which holds everything together and importantly frees up Rh1 for the e pawn push or just invasion. So all three pieces are greatly improved vs. nothing for black. Given Fischer's natural but mistaken...Rh6, feels time might've been an issue. Also, as Fischer playing with initiative much of the time, wouldn't be surprised if Gligoric also might've had some time pressure. Maybe making the calculations needed for Nb1 too costly vs. the natural 39. Kf3. |
