USSR Championship 1948

The 16th Chess Championship of the USSR was held in the capital of Moscow from November 10th to December 13th, 1948. Nineteen of the Soviet Union's top grandmasters were assembled to participate. Among them were the participants of the recent world championship interzonal competition that had been held in Saltsjobaden, Sweden, including the winner of the interzonal David Bronstein, as well as Alexander Kotov, Andor Lilienthal, Igor Bondarevsky, Salomon Flohr, Viacheslav Ragozin, and the previous year's champion, Paul Keres. Bronstein and Kotov shared first place, each with 12/18.
