Format: The winner of the first five games, draws not counting, is the victor.
Time Control: 20 moves per hour.
Prize: $100 purse and $500 stakes ($250 a side).
Introduction
"Eugene Delmar and C. A. Walbrodt met at the Manhattan Chess Club yesterday, and after a little discussion came to terms about a match to be started next week at the Manhattan Chess Club for a purse of $600. The contest will be five games up, draws not to be counted, and the playing will consume a week. Major Hanham and H. Cassel will be the umpires, Leo Goldmark referee, and A. G. Hoffman holder of the purse.
The games will be played at the time limit of twenty moves an hour. Both players have agreed to claim the game in case either be prevented from appearing on account of ill health or other reasons. Articles of agreement will be signed this afternoon at the Manhattan Chess Club."(1)
