Penguincw: MVL, a day after losing to Wei Yi 2 1/2-1 1/2 in a rapid match, beats some of the world's best players in the world in a blitz tournament. Is that saying something? ;)

Anyway, MVL, Nakamura, Anand, Carlsen and Giri will have 5 whites in the tournament. Some interesting games here as well, even though it's blitz.

Jun-15-15  Mr 1100: Just by the way guys, it seems these games have been (incorrectly) recorded as "classical" games - they are of course, blitz games.

CG.com, kindly amend as appropriate.

Jun-15-15  Mr 1100: And well done to Vachier-Lagrave... after a disappointing performance at Grand Prix Khanty-Mansiysk, a good performance here.

Hope he does well in the classical section too.

Jun-15-15  SirRuthless: Does one get a cash prize for winning the blitz event or is it just the extra white?
Jun-15-15  Mr 1100: LOL...

It isn't all about the money now, is it?

:-)

Jun-15-15  sydbarrett: If Wei Yi beat MVL yesterday in the Spanish tournament, and MVL beat a field consisting of the best players in the world, does that mean that Wei can... nah shouldn't jump to conclusions too soon
Jun-15-15  Mr 1100: And we also have a situation where Vachier-Lagrave beat Carlsen, Carlsen beat Nakamura, and Nakamura beat Vachier-Lagrave...
Jun-15-15  Whitemouse: the conclusion is only Wei Yi is real strong.
Jun-15-15  Sokrates: Congrats to MVL for this well-earned victory. It will become a nice warm coat in the cold days ahead, when it's likely that he'll be seriously challenged by his strong colleagues. It is the nice thing about blitz: it shakes the rankings a bit and offers other winners.
Jun-15-15  SirRuthless: <Me1100> The circle of pain.
Jun-16-15  greenfield67: Even though Nakamura outperformed Carlsen in the tournament, and even in blitz, which is Nakamura's specialty, Carlsen still won their head-to-head game. If I was Hikaru, I'd be scratching my head...
Jun-16-15  SirRuthless: That's a lot of "even thoughs".
Jun-16-15  Kinghunt: It means the old saying is true - anything can happen in blitz!
Jun-16-15  alfamikewhiskey: A short report from the blitz day.

Grischuk causing amusement and a somewhat "contemplative" Nakamura.

Jun-17-15  number 23 NBer: <chessgames.com> I don't know if there is a way to submit some sort of mass correction slip, but all of these games are listed as CLASSICAL instead of BLITZ.
Jun-26-15  1 2 3 4: <sydbarrett> let's see what's going to happen in the world cup ;-)
