Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik played a 24 game blitz match sponsored by the Internet Chess Club in The Casino of the Kosmos Hotel in Moscow. They played 12 games on Friday 27 November and the remaining 12 games on Saturday 28 November 1998 for the prize of 24,000 US dollars. Each player started with five minutes, plus two seconds per move when less than 20 seconds remain on the clock.

After nine rounds, Kramnik was leading 6 points to 3; however, Kasparov scored four wins in the next six games to go ahead by the odd point. It was only in game 22 that Kramnik levelled the score for good, with draws in the final two games. Both players went home with $12,000 US.
