Introduction
The entrance lists of the Sixth Annual Chess Tournament of the New Orleans Chess, Checkers and Whist Club have just been posted at the club by the managing committee, Messrs. Blanchard, Elliott and Labatt. The rules of play, etc., have not as yet been made public, but it is understood they will be substantially those of last year. (1)

The entrance lists for the sixth annual chess tournament of the New Orleans Chess, Checkers and Whist Club closed on the 11th instant with only ten entries. (2)

Synopsis
The sixth annual chess tournament of the New Orleans Chess, Checkers and Whist Club began on the 12th inst. (3)

The first half of the pending sixth annual chess tournament of the New Orleans Chess, Checkers and Whist Club was completed with the games played last evening, and the second half begins forthwith. The games have been played with great regularity to date, only two forfeitures in forty-five parties having occurred. (4)

It is safe to say that the experience of the present tournament has been such that a twenty move time limit will never again be adopted in the local club's annual contest. (5)

A regrettable event during the week was Mr. Factum's enforced departure from town on imperative business, thus causing him to forfeit three games and depriving him of all chance for second prize, for which, at the time, he stood best in the score. (6)

The sixth annual chess tournament of the New Orleans Chess, Checkers and Whist Club was duly brought to a close with the four parties completed on the evening of the 22d instant. The prizes (objects equivalent in value to $30, $20, $15 and $10, respectively) fell as follows: First Prize—Mr. C. O. Wilcox; Second Prize—Mr. L. L. Labatt; Third Prize—Mr. H. E. Barton; Special prize for best score against the prize winners—Mr. M. F. Factum. (7)

23...g6 24.Re3 Bb7 25.g3 and White lost the game shortly afterwards. White could have forced mate or the winning of his opponent's queen by the pretty coup of 25.Nf5. (8)

Note
Michael Dunn played under the pseudonym of "M. F. Factum".
