This 7th Niemeyer tournament, also named European Junior Cup, was now under the auspices of FIDE. Nine rounds in 10 days, starting on Wednesday 1 January (45 games). Rest day 5 January. Participants were the top 10 finishers from the Niemeyer Juniors Preliminary (1968) (23-31 December).
