Russian Championship Higher League (2020)

The 73rd Russian Championship Higher League tournament was a 51-player 9-round Swiss held in Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina in Sochi, Russia, 8-17 October 2020. Rest day: 13 October. The top five players would qualify for the Russian Championship Superfinal in December. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. The overall prize fund was 5 million rubles, or around 70,000 euros. Games started at 3 pm (Round 9: 2 pm). Tournament director: Alexander Tkachev. Chief arbiter: Artiom Akhmetov. Number of games played: 223.

Maksim Chigaev won with 6.5/9. He and four of the players with 6/9 (Antipovv, Fedoseev, Goganov and Esipenko) qualified for participation in the Russian Championship Superfinal (2020).
