Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-29-06  acirce: Great performance by Hellsten, probably indeed Sweden's best player although normally Berg and Agrest would like to have something to say about that.
Aug-02-06  Blackreptile: What's about Ulf Andersson? For me the best swedish player ! anybody knows why he didn't play?
Aug-02-06  suenteus po 147: <Blackreptile> Recent speculation has been that Ulf has had health problems of late.
Aug-03-06  waddayaplay: Ulf Andersson was of course invited , but "not surprisingly", he withdrew (he's done that on more than one occasion lately).
Aug-03-06  babakova: Even if Andersson would have been included Im sure Hellsten would have won the event. Ulf is just too prone to draw these days, and that is saying much considering his earlier approach.
Aug-06-06  waddayaplay: Of course you are wrong. The Swedish Championship is never that clear cut and halfways through I would have bet on Berg to win it. Who would have guessed that Hellsten would finish with six straight wins.... (http://schacksm.msp.se/schacksm/ber... )

Berg still has too many flaws in his play, unfortunately. I saw how he misused the privilege of the first move against underdog Rauan Sagit ( E Berg vs R Sagit, 2006 ).

I don't know when Ulf last participated in the Swedish Championship but I can't remember that he was frequent there in the 80's and 90's.

Aug-06-06  babakova: How am I so obviously wrong? The only way for Hellsten not to win the event if Andersson was in it was if the latter completely dominated the field.
