European Club Cup (2004)

The 20th European Club Cup was a 7-round Swiss team tournament held at the Altin Yunus Hotel in Cesme, Izmir Province, Turkey, 3-9 October 2004, with the participation of 36 clubs from 22 countries, including defending champions NAO Chess Club of Paris, which mustered Adams, Grischuk, Bacrot, Pons, Lautier, Radjabov, Fressinet, and Nataf. Of the 264 players, 86 were GMs. The matches were played over six boards, with 2 points for a team win and 1 point for a draw. Time control: 90 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds added per move from move one. Chief organizer: European Chess Union. Chief arbiter: Dirk de Ridder.

NAO Chess Club won again with 12/14, ahead of Bosna Sarajevo (Shirov, Short, Sokolov, Bologan, Movsesian, Kozul, Atalik, Predojevic), Ladya Kazan (Rublevsky, Yandemirov, Timofeev, Filippov, et al.) and Max Ven Ekaterinburg (Kasparov, Vaganian, et al.), all three with 11/14.
