Atterdag: The whole Chinese army of top female chessplayers seems to participate in this event. I shall keep an eye on the games between them.
Dec-28-24  whiteshark: Congrats to Humpy!
Dec-29-24  Jamboree: I'm glad for Humpy -- she deserves to have a World Championship title in her career record.

There was a time between about 10 and 15 years ago when she was the strongest woman player, but she was constantly thwarted from ever getting the classical World Championship title by upstart child prodigy Hou Yifan, over and over. Very frustrating for her, I imagine. If Humpy had been as strong as she was in any other phase of history aside from the "Hou Yifan era," she would have been Women's World Champion, probably more than once.

Being Rapid champion isn't quite the same as being Classical champion, but it's close, and a perfect culmination of her career achievements.

There was also a "Judit Polgar era" but that aside, I join the congrats and praise of Ms. Koneru and her brilliant performance her in New York.

HeMateMe: Natalie pogonina not in it? Maybe the Ukrainens are holding off, at this point
Dec-31-24  pcalugaru: Great tournament on the woman's side. to bad it was overshadowed by the events on the other side.
Dec-31-24  pcalugaru: I will add, the openings that I like, are generally played by the professionals on the woman's side.. that draws me to watch and be a fan
