 | | Troller: <bravado1> It's the same event. The line-up is quite different from year to year, but the last two years have not been so strong. Ivanchuk won it 2005-06-07, but he didn't participate last year, where Dominguez won it ahead of Amonatov and Khenkin. Previous winners include Najdorf, Smyslov, Larsen, Andersson, Miles, Hübner & Leko (and of course Ivanchuk) as well as many other top players. But also some not that strong GMs such as Hebden and Garcia Palermo, so the strength of the tournament seems pretty uneven from year to year. But running since 1962 and with these legends as former winners it is of course still a prestigious event. Source:

Nowadays he is showing less fighting spirit, and here he drew with white in 11, 12, 14 and 16 moves (and in 14 and 20 with black). |

| | Troller: Yes, it's strange with Bruzon. Some years ago he seemed as talented as Dominguez (and maybe he is). But in this tournament - at least from the looks of it - he was more interested in getting the tournament over with than playing chess. I'm not against draws, but so many of them here were without any fight, marring the tournament. I'm happy for Dominguez, though; even if this was not the strongest event he has played, and even if he did not exactly dominate the tournament, he went ahead and had the job done pretty convincingly. |
