Feb-27-10  percyblakeney: Baden's team is extremely strong with Anand, Svidler, Shirov, Bacrot, Movsesian on the top boards, but all of them drew while Adams looks lost with white against Areshchenko, and Naiditsch has already lost, so Werder Bremen will win the match.
Feb-27-10  percyblakeney: Adams finished the game by walking into mate with 51. Qd3:

Black has a mate in 5 with Re1+ and Areshchenko didn't miss it.

Wow, what an *incredible* upset.

Feb-28-10  percyblakeney: Adams has dropped much in playing strength. As late as in October 2008 he was well ahead of Svidler, Shirov, Gelfand and Grischuk on the rating list. Lost position also today, this time against a 2442 rated opponent.
Feb-28-10  notyetagm: Easy day at the office for Anand today.

http://www.schachbundesliga.info/he...

Feb-28-10  percyblakeney: Maybe Adams will escape after all, Reeh is down to a couple of minutes and after some exchanges the position looks more drawish than the earlier +3 evaluation suggested.
Feb-28-10  anandrulez: Did Shirov just win a lost game in Ruy Lopez as White ? I though he was lost and then intimidated his opp wih h4 and the likes :P

Wouldn't *you* be intimidated playing Shirov?

:-)

Feb-28-10  percyblakeney: Adams did save the draw eventually, while Gashimov's Benoni worked much better against 2560 opposition than it did in Linares.
Feb-28-10  Eyal: Nice final combination by Anand:

24.Bg6!! Rg8 25.Bxh7! Kxh7 26.Qh4+ Kg6 27.Rd3 Qh5 28.Rg3+ 1-0 (28...Kh6 29.Qf4+ Kh7 and now either 30.Rh3 or 30.Qxb8).

24...Qf6 might have led to an even prettier finish: 25.Qe2! Qe7 26.Qh5 h6 27.Qh4! Rxf1+ (27...Qd6 28.Rxf8+ Qxf8 29.Rd8) 28.Rxf1 Qd6 29.Qg3! e5 30.Qd3! Qe7 31.Rf7 and the black queen can't keep defending f8.

Scared to death ubfortunately , yes ! :P

Feb-28-10  anandrulez: Very petite combination from Anand , it looked so easy to outplay a 2600 player for Vishy . Anand would have seen bg6 when he made the pawn push , thats why he played nxc5 and all ...Beauty man .

And someone asked why I thought Anand was favored over Topalov.

Feb-28-10  whiteshark: Anand said that <21...Nxe5> was a mistake and that his position is forced win after it. <21...Bxd4> was necessary though his position is clearly better, but not a win.

Where did you find Anand commenting on this game?

Thanks

Feb-28-10  Eyal: <Did Shirov just win a lost game in Ruy Lopez as White ? I though he was lost and then intimidated his opp wih h4 and the likes :P>

No, Shirov never had a lost game - he held the initiative since Baramidza played 20...f5 (missing the stronger ...Nf4! first). Black could have held, but he made two serious mistakes - first 31...Kf7? (after g6 he should be solid enough), perhaps missing that after 32.Bxh7 the knight on e6 is not really under threat (32...Qxe6?? 33.Bg8+), and then 33...Qe5? (after 33...Be7 34.Ng5+ Kf8 the black king seems reasonably safe).
