Nov-16-12  messachess: I give myself about even odds to beat Elisavet Papathanasiou in blitz.
Nov-18-12  brankat: The same as with the Boys:

<The tournament standings table looks exactly the same today as it did 4 days ago! Four rest days? :-)>

Nov-18-12  waustad: <brankat>No, it is a big Swiss and they only have scores for the top boards. You can find the results here: http://chess-results.com/tnr84658.a...
Lisa Schut came in second to Aleksandra Goryachkina, with the difference being the win by the later in their individual game.
Nov-18-12  waustad: As of now they have 88 games to download, so I expect a few more will be showing up fairly soon.
Nov-18-12  Shams: <waustad> 182 missing games is the figure I came to.
Nov-18-12  brankat: It's good to have capable mathematicians around here :-)

Anyhow, is the tournament over now? Thanks.

Nov-18-12  Shams: For some reason I multiplied by 11 rounds, which is a perfectly reasonable length for a tournament but is of course not the length of *this* tournament.

HeMateMe: Are these under age 18 players?

You know, if Bieber and Selena played chess, well, I can just hear the cash registers ringing...

Nov-19-12  Shams: <HeMateMe> There are six sections in each of the two groups, Open and Girls: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18.

http://www.wycc2012.com/

Also, apparently there *will* be eleven rounds, all told.

Nov-19-12  waustad: <shams>Many of the games were not on DGT boards. They will only be posted to the net if somebody transcribes them and posts them manually. This is typical in Swiss system tournaments, since the DGT boards are expensive, as is the computer gear to keep it all together.
Nov-19-12  brankat: World Championship for kids U8?? What's next? U4?

I think even U10 is a bit too much. Let the kids be kids while they can.

Nov-24-12  hellopolgar: why is it that Kasparov looks really short in pictures on this page?

http://www.wycc2012.com/#art167

isn't Kasparov like 6'8"?

Nov-24-12  Shams: <hellopolgar> You may be thinking of Kramnik, who is quite tall. Kasparov is a smaller man, I would say no more than 5'7" or so.

  perfidious: <Shams> Kramnik is 6' 6" and Kasparov 5' 10", though stocky.
Nov-25-12  Shams: <perfidious> Is Garry really that tall? I met him once and I remember being a good six inches taller than he was. (I'm a bit shy of 6'2".) But that was a long time ago. Perhaps he has grown.

perfidious: <Shams> Must have been those shoes!
Nov-25-12  achieve: Kasparov is indeed 5'10'' tops, perhaps an inch shorter - I too have stood next to him a couple of times, once looking at a monitor of a Mickey Adams game, and Garri asked me what I thought of the position.... ;) True though - I felt a rush of blood, nearly fainted, but then quickly regrouped and uttered some sort of reply. I can still see it, feel it, as well.
Nov-25-12  hellopolgar: well, here it says kasparov is 6'8".

<I met Kramnik & Kapsarov in Londson in 2000. Kasparov is about six foot eight inches tall & Kramnik about 6' 10".>

http://www.chesscircle.net/forums/s...

Nov-25-12  badest: No, he is not. I have met him - he is no more than 5'10'' if even that.

tamar: <hellopolgar> Those internet pranksters are at it again. The post you quote continues

<In addition to that but I seem to remewmber that Vera Menchik was 8 foot 4". On the whole quite extraordinary!.>

Nov-26-12  hellopolgar: i see.

well to be honest, looking at http://i.imgur.com/RuCK8.jpg i doubt he is even 1.78m, maybe more like 1.72~1.73

Nov-27-12  Shams: How Tall Is Garry? continues. I asked Mig Greengard and got this response:

<I'll measure him next week. But no way he's under 5'9". I'm huge and tower over 5'7". 5'10" sounds about right.>
