Jan-18-14  DcGentle: <chess gunners>: Well, I would be grateful if you don't mix figurine notation with PGN-Format. For the latter has these [] lines, which indicates that this is suited for computer use. But due to the figurine notation, it's impossible to just copy and paste this text into a text-editor or pgn viewer, because the pieces are not recognized when copying it from the website. The effect is, that the moves are invalid.

Thank you.

Jan-18-14  kb2ct:

I really think it is a zugswang caused or aggrevated by congestion on his c1 square.

We don't have to play Pg6 unless he doubles rooks on the g-file.

Jan-18-14  chess gunners: <DrGentle>: Sorry,, i forgot it at chessgames.com because i have never commented for last 2 years
Jan-18-14  DcGentle: <chess gunners>: Well, I figured the game anyways, and <15... Nxf6> would have been stronger, because then <16. c4> fails due to <16... Ng4>.
Jan-18-14  YouRang: <DcGentle><...But due to the figurine notation, it's impossible to just copy and paste this text into a text-editor or pgn viewer, because the pieces are not recognized when copying it from the website.>

Actually, cg.com recently fixed this, so figurine notation does copy/paste correctly (as non-figurine notation).

I still dislike figurine notation. It's just visually hard to read.

I actually find it easier to read!

Not with my browser, Opera.

Black has to use another advantage; his King. I'd try for ...Rd3;..R8d4, ...K to d6.

I'd still say that <6...Be7 7.g5 Ne4 8.h4 d5 9.Bg2 Be6> looks a little better for Black

than

But overall if White is going to play 1.b3, then I think 5.Na3 is the better plan in this opening.

Perhaps after the game GMW will simply say "I had fun playing a semi unsound OTB opening that works against some players and getting my butt kicked in centaur correspondence chess!" or something along those lines.

Jan-18-14  DPLeo: <yskid: Is White supposed to be lost in this opening after first 6 moves?>

Probably not.

I think it's accurate to say that after all the lost tempos in the first six moves of this opening that White has handed the initiative of first-move to Black.

From there, Black had the option to accept the initiative or not.

Jan-18-14  devere: <chess gunners: I found in a most fatal move by Williams, at 32.f4??. Now, if white plays 32.f3 the most interesting move here is 32...Rd6 and likely win the c6 pawn, but White has a powerful idea with 33.Rc1! Ba7 [becoz 33...Rc6 34.Bxe5! and 35.Bd4 with a big pin] and White consolidated. I think this move was missed by GM Williams>

On 33.Rc1 Bf2(-->h4-->g5). There is no way for White to draw without a blunder from Black.

In my opinion GM Williams didn't miss it. He just prefers a fast loss to a slow loss. If this were speed chess, or even regular tournament speed he might have played what you suggest and reasonably hoped for an opponent's mistake. In correspondence chess against a team that is too much to hope for.

Anyway, we'll probably know the answer tonight.

At this point, black has nearly complete control of the left side of the board, and white's backward pawns are really vulnerable. Getting an eval of almost +5.0 for black.
