True, there are some bodacious spiders in Australia, but it does sound like this guy went off the deep end. <Optimal Play> Maybe you know more about this than I've been able to find out so far--like maybe what kind of spider it was. Maybe extreme fear was justified? |

And I said to myself: "hmm..that was awfully progressive for a 1930s movie..!!". I guess I got it all wrong!> As recently as "The Flintstones", "gay" has NOT been... well... gay. They said they'd have "a gay old time" but it was two married couples... with children even! That was in the 1960s, I think. |

Jan-08-19 | | thegoodanarchist: < playground player: <Esteemed Colleagues> I'm getting awful tired of the nooze.> I started watching the news before I started elementary school. This is no exaggeration. When my Dad got home from work he would turn on CBS Evening News, sit in his recliner, and watch. Sometimes he would snack on an apple or sip a Bud while doing so. I would sit on the floor to the right of the recliner and watch along with Dad. Mom used to subscribe to multiple news magazines. We had Time and Newsweek delivered to the house, plus a daily paper. I would skim these periodicals and read whatever looked interesting. I used to pride myself on being better informed, more up on the news, than anyone else I knew (except for some of the people in my family. Both sides of my family are loaded with intellectuals, brilliant folks). I started picking up on left-wing bias in the media in the late 1980s. It was probably present before then, but that's when I started to notice it. But still I persevered in my effort to stay informed and up-to-date. Rarely consciously thinking of it as a civic duty, more along the lines as another proof of my intellectual superiority over the average man (or woman). This continued for decades. Then Trump won. And the media (mainstream) stopped all pretense of remaining "objective" and went to war against our own president! I don't think it an exaggeration to say that they've been waging a soft coup against Trump since the 2016 election result was known. The MSM's only claims to objectivity are their own lies. <Mr. President, Will you stop calling us the enemy of the people?> (I hope not, because it's true!) Personally, I think America as "land of the free" is doomed. But Trump has at least postponed it 4 years, maybe 8. Since the soft coup attempt became clear and undeniable in 2017, I have removed MSM almost completely from my life. Maybe 5 minutes a day, but many days not at all. And just to get the big picture. I don't believe anyone can watch only MSM and be objectively informed. It has become active brainwashing. If this life were forever it would be depressing, but we are mortal. So all I feel is sadness for future generations, who will live as slaves because left-wing idiots such as the ones on Rogoff are selling their birthright. And they aren't even receiving porridge for it. They are selling it in exchange for lies. |

Sobering, however, is the refusal of any main stream media (translation progressive Stalinist media) to even acknowledge the Bill Shatner protest in the first place. If you google <William Shatner slamming Canadian Broadcasting for banning "Baby, It's Cold Outside> The first half dozen links are from "conservative news sources"- Breitbart, Washington Times, Daily Wire and such. No hits on mainstream (cough Stalinist cough) media groups though. The problem here is that if the Stalinists succeed in getting more conservative news organizations banned, then 1984 has indeed arrived. Then a story like Bill Shatner's protest simply wouldn't be covered- by anyone. Next step- Get you fired for it Oh wait that's already here. Next step- Gulag.
Do you think this is a joke? It isn't. |

<Lee> lol "Marxist Literary Theory" I studied that in university, it's been part of the curriculum for ages. Contribution of Marxist Literary Theory to actual literature = -500 Liberal democracies don't ban Marxist literature <Marx, Engels, Mao, Lenin, Franz Fanon or anyone else> Marxist states ban bourgeois literature <Solzenitsin, Chekov, Dosotoyevsky, Tolstoy, and other hacks> In liberal democracies you use free speech to argue against what you don't like. In Marxist states you just ban, fire, or kill the people who say things you don't like. When liberal democracies give up free speech they become indistinguishable from Marxist states. Which is what happens when the pigs become men and the men become pigs at the end of "Animal Farm." |
