Jun-25-10 | | technical draw: <This bookie thing is worst than cocaine.:d)> It could be worse. It could be for REAL money. |
|
Jun-25-10 | | wordfunph: Black-Black-Black wins Pick 3 whoaaa!
<malthrope: BET it all on <B-L-A-C-K> (if you know what I mean!). ~lol~> i should have taken seriously mal's tip.. :-)
congrats to the 10 winners, better luck next leg to 393 runner-ups! |
|
Jun-25-10 | | bharatiy: wow I went from -51 to 2754 on last day and I did not bet Carlsen winning this tournament. I wish I was this lucky on one more day. Whats next this is addicting! |
|
Jun-25-10 | | wordfunph: <Boratco: This bookie thing is worst than cocaine.:d)> <bharatiy: Whats next this is addicting!> <Chess Games Bookie: DISCLAIMER: Be warned, this game may be habit-forming!> ahhhhh...i want to quit bookie but bookie keeps on coming...even in my dreams huh! maybe i try cocaine so i may forget bookie. <CG Bookie> when will be the next leg? could you please cover the Biel tourney? thanks.. |
|
Jun-25-10 | | edsauced: Hmm, after being happy yesterday and going bed sure that I would finish in top-10, now I am afraid I will not do it. I missed yesterday standings update, even with my win I am barely in 9th-10th place (after counting Bozna tournament winner bets I am behind Sugardom). With so many players surely betting all-in on Carlsen or Draw, I am sure a few will surpass me. Even if I do not qualify, I am happy with my results in my first season on chessbookie. |
|
Jun-25-10 | | 4tmac: Probably the most exciting round I can remember. Congrats to the winner (either Winter or whoever got some of that 141 on BBB! You called it Mal! |
|
Jun-25-10 | | bharatiy: <4tmac> I had 21 on BBB, not enough to be in top 10 though. Only 21 and why not 121? |
|
Jun-25-10 | | malthrope: <wordfunph: Black-Black-Black wins Pick 3 whoaaa! <malthrope: <BET it all on <B-L-A-C-K> (if you know what I mean!). ~lol~>> i should have taken seriously mal's tip.. :-)> Note to self: Make a really BIG <"Post a Note Sticky"> to take what I publicly profess on those rare occasions -- seriously! <*my sheepish grin exposed again*> ♙♙♙♙♖♘♗♕♔♗♘♖♙♙♙♙
<technical draw: <[Boratco:] <This bookie thing is worst than cocaine.:d)>> It could be worse. It could be for REAL money.> Hahaha! Funny you should mention that <TD> as I use only MONOPOLY money when betting and to this day it still hurts when I lose. ~lol~ ♙♙♙♙♖♘♗♕♔♗♘♖♙♙♙♙
<4tmac: Probably the most exciting round I can remember.> Absolutely! ;) Can't wait to see how this one shakes out... Goodness, what a blast of fireworks at the very end (the 'last round' at Kings was *not* boring in the least!). ~lol~ My first thought on seeing the Leaderboard update last night was: <"WoW - <<4tmac>> straight to the top!"> ~lol~ ;)
Immediately followed by my second thought:
<"Wonder how <<Barok Espinosa>> is gonna handle this one?!"> Sometime this afternoon (<CG.com> server time) we should get the final Leaderboard lowdown... Who actually won? ...and who placed in the top ten? :P Congrats to all those brave souls that weathered the <ChessBookie> betting storm on this one! :XD - Mal
PS: I did just OK managed to keep myself in the 'positive' ($4K) and repaid my $2.5K loan in full. :) Probably in the top 20 but clearly out of the 'top ten' for the Spring betting leg this time... |
|
Jun-25-10 | | Boratco: A great timing, waited till the last moment. Today, I managed to lose all my bets. |
|
Jun-25-10 | | 4tmac: Yeah, that's why I didn't play. In retrospect, a measly 500 on MC would have taken care of Winter's 5,000 but I still have to worry about "consistant" Robin & "hot hand" Barok....I didn't want to help them LOL. BTW, thanks to Chenebel, Switch, Barok & friends (as well as Word & Mal for their info help) to take this game to a "whole 'nother level"! :) |
|
Jun-25-10 | | Barok Espinosa: Unfortunately, I bet a large sum on,
D-D=D
B=D-D
<4tmac> made me do it. ;o) Luckily, I save just enough to land in the Top 10??
Exciting leg up to the last round!!!
Congratulations to all the winners and non winners! See you all in Summer! |
|
Jun-26-10 | | Boratco: The loanshark is still willing to lend me 4k although the leg is now over. Should I take it for the next tournament? |
|
Jun-26-10 | | malthrope: <Boratco: The loanshark is still willing to lend me 4k although the leg is now over. Should I take it for the next tournament?> <Boratco> - when the Summer betting leg starts up (hopefully sometime late next week when 'July' fires up!) all the betting funds will be reset back to $1,000 c-bucks for everyone and we all start again on equal footing... So, no overnight carry-overs allowed! ~lol~ ;) Looks like the <ChessBookie> got himself extra busy today with other stuff (perhaps counting his 'vig' winnings and making plans for his upcoming vacation in the Bahamas). It's the first time since I've enjoyed betting here that the Awards announcement didn't take place later on the same day. :( Already I miss the fanfare and hoopla... In any event, in a little more than an hour the Leaderboard will be automatically updated and then we'll know the final results of the Spring leg. :) ChessBookie Standings
Hope everyone had fun - win, lose or draw! :XD

 | | Chnebelgrind: <Winter> is the winner! Congratulations!
Congratulations as well to all the others of the top ten, especially to <edsauced> with whom I had an enriching exchange of ideas on my forum. |
|
Jun-26-10 | | 4tmac: Congrats to <Winter> for *another* exciting finish to a CB leg. Wow, the thinking at the end there was more like poker than chess or paramutual betting. All part of the charm of The ChessBookie Game!! Great fun, interest, and education. < Good Luck > to all in the next leg!! :) |

Jun-26-10 | | malthrope: WoW!
Spring betting leg:
<1. Winter 22,924
2. 4tmac 21,144>
It doesn't ever get much closer than that. ;)
As <4tmac> said earlier <4tmac: Yeah, that's why I didn't play. In retrospect, a measly 500 on MC would have taken care of Winter's 5,000 but I still have to worry about "consistant" Robin & "hot hand" Barok....I didn't want to help them LOL. [...]> I guess the betting lesson we can all learn from this one is...
Don't leave yourself standing as a fixed target. o-O Especially in the last bet! ~lol~ In any event, a hearty Congrats to the winner <Winter> :D It was a gutsy play to take that one chance for victory (had it not worked then <4tmac> would have won it). ;) ♙♙♙♙♖♘♗♕♔♗♘♖♙♙♙♙
It always amazes me all of the unheard stories that escape and fly by us forever to be unknown... Here's one such story that has surfaced. :)

Hehehe... That's the way to DO IT! :))
Congrats <Ghost of Merlin> on your last minute escape from the Underworld! ;) I've always made every effort myself when in a losing cause to try my very best to pay back the Loanshark if possible. He's a very forgiving soul though and allows one to remain in the cellar with no time spent in debtors prison! ~lol~ OK <ChessBookie> enjoy your Bahamas escapade. We expect you back soon and if you don't show up... We'll pack up our mules with July 4th fireworks and send out a large posse of 402 diehard <ChessBookie> bettors all looking for ya! :P My Best, - Mal |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: I'm not positive, but I think Bazna Kings: Rd 10: Pick Three is the first time that a pick three paid out for the Black-Black-Black ticket. The odds were 122 to 1. |

Jun-26-10 | | edsauced: Well, I did it. I am somewhat surprised that the guys in places 11-20 did not go all-in in one bet, to make it or lose it all. Funny thing, the 11th place in the last day (Mdog) stood pat, and he was able to reach top-10 due to Gukseon last day collapse. Thanks to everyone, in special to Chnebelgrind, who shared many ideas with me in this season, my first one here. Also congrats to SwitchingQuylthulg, who fought hard and finally got a well-earned last place (Just kidding). |
|
Jun-26-10 | | technical draw: I'm such a loser I even lost last place! |
|
Jun-26-10 | | malthrope: <edsauced: Well, I did it. I am somewhat surprised that the guys in places 11-20 did not go all-in in one bet, to make it or lose it all.> When making such a statement one can only guess as to what took place without specifically knowing all the facts. Especially when there are only minor changes in the standings (either positive or negative) from one bet to another. In my case, the last bet (June 25th) I finally decided on a strategy of Pick-3's to go primarily with 'D-W-D' & 'D-B-D' with a few sub-variations (which would have won a fortune). Also, along the same lines to bet principally on Ponomariov winning against Nisipeanu in their individual encounter. So, as we now know in the last Pick-3 bets only 'B-B-B' won the day. ;) Had I for bet on Pono and either Carlsen or Radjabov to win their matches that certainly would have worked out much better. Hence, not losing all the funds I tied up betting also in the Pick-3's. If either 'D-W-D' or 'D-B-D' had hit along with Pono winning over Nisi then my Fall betting leg story would had read much differently. Clearly I did not stand idly by (having bet almost all my funds including a 2.5K loan) and betting, in some cases, to the limits of my maximum bet allowed. 'nuff said... =)
Congrats on your qualification to the grand finals! :)) BTW: There is a lot of interesting and entertaining reading to be found right here in the <ChessBookie> chessforum. Think I started becoming active as a contributing bettor around page -90- and we've been having loads of fun ever since then! :XD Best Always, - Mal
PS: <technical draw: I'm such a loser I even lost last place!> Cheer up <TD> as another ripe betting opportunity is right around the corner... The <ChessBookie> SUMMER Betting leg kicks in next week! :P |
|
Jun-26-10 | | wordfunph: <technical draw: I'm such a loser I even lost last place!> <TD> unfortunate coz you were "leading" the pack but you failed to put up a fight against <wally> and <Switch>.. :) <CG Bookie> thank you for the wonderful leg...keep it going! <mal> thanks for the enjoyable kibz here in CB forum.. <Winter> and <other winners>...congrats 2010 Spring Leg Hall-of-Famers! | | eternaloptimist: Wow what a finish to the spring leg! A few of u guys came out of nowhere to pass Barok during the last two days of this leg. Congratulations to the top 10 & esp. to Winter for winning this leg. This was the most difficult one yet for me & my worst result yet shows that. |
